An exciting opportunity has arisen at Ferndene Children and Young People’s inpatient service. We are seeking to recruit a highly skilled and experienced Advanced Occupational Therapist to join the service.This role will include leading on the development of the learning disability, autism spectrum and neurodevelopment pathway. The role involves providing specialist assessment and interventions, clinically working into the learning disability pathway. working in collaboration with the young person, inpatient, community teams and carers. The post includes service development projects, research opportunities and using proactive leadership skills supporting staff clinically.The post holder will require specialist clinical knowledge and skills in working with this patient group and would be expected to possess a high level of skill and experience in understanding the impact of mental illness, learning disability, autism spectrum and neurodevelopmental conditions upon occupational functioning. The role will involve providing Specialist Occupational Therapy assessment and other related assessments, dependent upon the needs of young people, and treatment and recommendations for improving performance in managing the demands of activities of daily living, daily routines and the impact of environmental factors. There would also be a need for close joint working with multi-disciplinary team members in devising care and treatment plans for meeting these needs.The post holder will be required to possess (or develop through commitment to training) advanced knowledge and skills in theories and approaches utilised in meeting the needs of this patient group including; sensory processing strategies, positive behaviour support and relevant standardised assessments. Using Model of Human Occupation and other relevant occupational therapy approaches and models of practice.The successful candidate will work alongside the Occupational Therapy team, which includes OTs, AHP assistant practitioners, activity lead and sports and fitness practitioner and the wider AHP team including Dietetics and Speech and Language Therapy. As well as the wider multi-disciplinary team made up Psychiatry, Nursing, Psychology, Family Therapy, Teachers, Education staff and involvement staff (Family Ambassadors and Peer Support staff).The service has a robust supervision and CPD structure, the post holder will benefit from excellent training and development opportunities. Specialist training is available in functional assessment, the Assessment of Motor and Processing Skills (AMPs), Motivational Interviewing, Positive Behavioural Support training, Sensory Integration levels 1, 2 and 3, and Sensory Attachment training.CNTW CYPS service has the first established accredited specialist training which allows study to Degree level in subjects related to Children and Young People’s Mental Health.
