Our Client:

Our client has an exciting position for a full time Vertical Farming Technician to join their friendly team, based in Worcestershire. While small, residential vertical gardening has been around for decades, it is in the past few years that advances in lighting and reduced energy costs have had a transformative effect, unleashing vertical farming’s potential. Our client uses proven agritech in an innovative and unique way, growing crops in environments where they will consistently thrive and produce significantly higher yields while using fewer natural resources.

The successful candidate will assist in all day-to-day activities within an in-house testing and development vertical farming system, working with a growing team to test, validate, and develop plant recipes and internal processes for use in commercial vertical farming systems.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate the pilot scale vertical farming system with all associated physical and clerical activities to ensure the highest levels of performance.
  • Support the testing and development of different crop varieties both in house and externally.
  • Ensure adherence to the Food Safety and Health & Safety standards of the organisation
  • Potting, sowing, harvesting, and packing of fresh produce
  • Continuous monitoring, pest management and accurate record keeping
  • Mixing irrigation solutions and monitoring growing all parameters
  • Maintain the health of our plants and the wider facilities through regular cleaning & sterilising
  • Working at height
  • Working in small spaces and with restricted access within a crop
  • General maintenance of all equipment
  • Following all standard operating procedures
  • After the produce is ready you may be involved in the delivery to local customers
  • Involvement with the testing of different crop varieties both internally and externally
  • Work to a pre agreed testing schedule to allow us to identify key variables affecting growth and areas for improvement.

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Ability to concentrate and perform tasks accurately to a high standard
  • Good understanding of crop husbandry and hydroponic growing methodologies
  • Ability to follow instructions and work hard
  • Computer literate and able to work with Microsoft suite programs and data analysis software
  • Ability to work independently, as well as with others
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Appreciate the importance of process
  • Hands-on practical and technical skills
  • Understanding of Food Safety and Health & Safety
  • Ideally educated to graduate level/have completed an apprenticeship in a related business area
  • Useful subjects include sciences, horticulture, health, and food technologies
  • Any additional qualifications that demonstrate impeccable hygiene, health and safety knowledge and practical horticultural skills are advantageous
