Which is where you join the journey.What To ExpectAs a Vehicle Configuration And Test System (VCATS) Engineer with Manufacturing Engineering (ME) you will be responsible for implementing the vehicle diagnostic processes into the JLR Trim & Final Assembly lines in support of the launch of the new vehicles, features & functions expected from our Customers.To implement the processes you will be working directly with the Product Engineering teams, fellow Manufacturing Engineers, ME Facilities teams, the Manufacturing IT oragnisation, and of course the Production teams as you get involved from the design inception through to 1st Customer car production. Your goals are to influence the productdesign to ensure that it is not only feasible & safe to assemble but also efficient. In pursuit of these goals you-ll have the opportunity to develop & deploy new software & hardware tools, in combination with new IT solutions, both inhouse and with Suppliers.Key Responsibilities
  • Define, create, and maintain in the relevant test systems, the key test process standards within the Bill-of-Test framework
  • Validate the test processes (tests and test sequences) prior to the release to the internal customers, e.g. Engineering Integration, Plant Delivery Team, Trim & Final Production Line
  • Act as the VCATS Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the allocated commodities
  • Assess the Product Engineering defined Manufacturing End-of-Line Configuration and Test Requirements; challenge requirements to ensure they are optimised to achieve the VCATS Programme & Enterprise targets
  • Support VCATS teams with the implementation and roll-out of the test processes and tools into the target plants
  • Develop the test process standards in collaboration with the stakeholder teams through the understanding of the deviations required for the individual plants
  • Collaborate across the VCATS teams to maximise the RFT & DFV in each plant
  • Participate in innovation & self-sufficiency projects to develop alternative processes & tools to drive JLR towards its Vision
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing and Design principles in the development of the Bill-of-Test to support the improvement of the Manufacturing KPI-s in collaboration with all VCATS teams
  • Propose the hardware / system requirements to support VCATS test processes and collaborate with all VCATS teams to define standards
  • Recommend and manage suppliers as necessary
  • Assess, document and report risks & opportunities of engineering changes via the VCATS Programmes teams
RequiredWHAT YOU-LL NEED
  • Relevant previous experience of Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Software Engineering processes, tools and techniques
  • Flexible approach to job responsibilities and working hours
  • Demonstrable ability to create detailed and effective action plans
Desirable
  • Ideally educated to degree level in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Software Engineering or a similar engineering discipline
  • Knowledge of and involvement in the product development phase
  • Project management experience
