Brook Street Social Care is a high street recruitment company that specialises in finding temporary and permanent work opportunities for professionals who provide care or support to vulnerable adults, children and families. We work with a wide range of companies that provide residential care, supported living, hostel, nursery and day care services.

At present we are working with a large care provider who is seeking Unit manager to manage 2-3 units around wembley.


Must have:

NVQ level 3 health and social care

5+ years of experience working with children/young people

1-2 years experience managing team

The Main Role

  • You will ensure that the service runs smoothly on a day-to-day basis.
  • You will grow, develop and lead a team of staff.
  • You will be responsible for all aspects of management of the residential units and outreach service. This will include being on-call and working one weekend a month.
  • You will continue and improve the provision of outstanding services to young people.
  • You will represent Home’ at professional’s meetings and be able to promote the business at all times.
  • You will co-ordinate and monitor all aspects of H&S within the units and with the young people.

Daily duties

  • To ensure all residents are safe and well and ensuring that any outstanding matters are sorted out i.e. with police, social services, education, health appointments etc.
  • To assist staff with new arrivals, setting up their rooms and kitchen space and carrying out inductions for young people (including house rules, licence agreement, phonecard etc.)
  • To ensure that regular inspections on residents’ rooms are carried out.
  • To deal with disciplinary matters with the young people and inform social services accordingly.
  • To provide on-call alongside Director.

Communication

  • To ensure there is excellent communication between all staff at all sites, between key-workers and social services, key-workers and young people, and that the Directors is updated on a weekly basis.
  • To direct staff, if necessary, to attend meetings, accompany young people, contact relevant agencies etc. To ensure all keyworkers attend their key-children’s reviews and circulate/email to all staff minutes and targets Home’ must meet. If necessary, manager to attend important/complex reviews and other professional’s meetings where necessary.
  • Ensure all appointments and meetings with the young people are put in the diary and relevant staff are available to attend.
    • Check that Access is updated with all relevant points included, e.g date, time, name etc. If not to speak to that member of staff concerned. If this problem persists to inform the director.
    • To ensure that staff are carrying out regular key working sessions, completing PIPS and monthly reports on their key young people.
    • Organise staff and resident’s meetings. Write up the agenda and chair the meeting if necessary. Ensure minutes are written up and distributed amongst staff and residents.

    Staffing

    • To ensure that staffing is in place for the day, evening and night. To ensure that outreach staff are with their clients and have someone to contact if there is a problem.
    • Find alternative staffing in the case of illness or other such emergency or to cover shifts as and when necessary to ease staffing.
    • To carry out regular supervisions with the core members of staff in your team.

    Health and Safety

    • Ensure all Health & Safety requirements are adhered to. All equipment is fully functional and dealing with any follow ups, i.e. filing accident reports, changing faulty equipment.
    • To carry out risk assessments on new arrivals and review risk assessments regularly alongside the director.
    • To carry out risk assessments on properties this is alongside the Health and Safety Team.

    Other duties

    • Attending training and conferences and networking events on the behalf of Home.
    • To organise regular recreational/educational events for young people, delegating this to appropriate members of staff.
    • To improve ’Home’ IT system especially with regard to duplication of documents and the confusion this causes, efficiency and issues around confidentiality of information.
    • To communicate regularly with the Director and attend regular briefings/meetings to update on the business.
    • Any other duties that Home might deem necessary within the remit of your job description.
