We are looking for a Trading Director who is strategic, results-oriented, and a strong leader.

As the Trading Director, your main responsibility will be to manage the products under your control in a proactive and effective manner to achieve the required customer and business objectives. This includes leading a direct team responsible for your products, which may include underwriting, claims, and operations.

You will also be responsible for managing the matrix where contact centres, operational procedures, pricing, management information, and product management are set and managed centrally. This involves bringing together a cross-functional team to set long and short-term business goals in line with company and team objectives.

Your role will also include driving continuous improvement for both customers and employees. This means constantly seeking ways to improve the products and services offered to customers, as well as finding ways to enhance the working environment and satisfaction of your team members.

Overall, your role as Trading Director is to act in the best interests of the company by effectively managing the products under your control and leading your team to achieve the desired outcomes.

This is a Certified role.
Responsibilities:
  • Devise a strategic plan and budget for the products in line with the Company and business area objectives
  • Ownership and delivery of P&L for the products, as agreed with Area Managing Director
  • Ensure that all dominant priorities are consistent with International Strategy and to monitor their progress
  • Deliver customer priorities in all areas required and ensure that customer service and satisfaction are of high standard
  • Design and agree client and revenue development plans with divisional management including product and territorial development areas
  • Communicate strategy within AJG and internal stakeholder groups as determined; lead implementation of strategy in agreed areas
  • Develop, in conjunction with existing AJG activities, a relationship management programme with key business stakeholders e.g. heads of Lloyd’s managing agents
  • Ensure the correct and maximum commission rates are applied within territories
  • Undertake substantial travel around the UK, client/office sites
  • Prioritise and manage workload of the team in order to effectively service stakeholder relationships and ensure tasks are completed within customer deadlines
  • Monitor progress towards targets and produce monthly reports highlighting corrective action where required to achieve target deliverables
  • Provide guidance and support on placement and technical issues to ensure the team generates revenue to meet required budgetary targets
  • Support the Leadership Team in developing, growing and delivering operational plans and revenue targets
  • Identify business improvement opportunities to improve level of service to all stakeholders
  • Champion best practice to support the teams in delivering optimum efficiency and effectiveness across the business by operating in accordance with laid down processes
  • Build and develop positive relationships with customers, other organisations and Insurers that add value to the business and our reputation in the market
  • Motivate and manage the morale of the team, proactively managing all employee relations issues to ensure team effectiveness and employee engagement
  • Where required, manage the day-to-day people aspects of the team, including recruitment, assessment, performance management and annual appraisals
  • Act as a referral point for potential operational issues within own product
  • Ensure that all employees are aware of legal, regulatory and compliance requirements and that processes and procedures are in place to manage any breaches of these
  • Where applicable, role will be client facing
  • Comply with AJG Professional Standards Manual in accordance with statutory requirements for role with specific attention, but not limited to Treating Customers Fairly

If shortcomings are identified take responsibility for remedial action planning, and action in conjunction with the relevant experts within the firm.
Additional Accountability for FCA Approved Persons (CF30s and SIFS)
  • Carry out your role in accordance with the FCA’s Statements of Principle and Code of Practice
Qualifications:

Qualifications

  • Cert CII/ Dip CII (Chartered Insurance Institute) qualification desirable

Technical Knowledge

  • Robust knowledge of general insurance (London Market / Lloyd’s and Industry) products and services including underlying legal principles and practices

Experience

  • Led teams through difficulties and challenges to meet business objectives and target deliverables
  • Demonstrable understanding of the difference of people management and effective leadership skills
  • Able to quickly identify potential problems/opportunities and provide solutions during periods of change/transformation
  • Successfully and proactively plan, prioritise and organise workloads in a way which allows for unexpected change/events and interruptions for team
  • Proven record of managing concurrent workflows
  • Interpretation of salient information/knowledge and act upon findings which contribute to improving efficiency in operations
  • Proven leadership skills driving a high performance culture
  • Significant staff development/ management experience essential
  • A high level of regulatory awareness experience essential when dealing with operational group risk

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including listening, verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the Company, including senior level management
  • Excellent presentation skills with experience interacting and presenting to senior management
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to develop creative approaches and solutions necessary to solve complex problems
  • Excellent customer service focus, including the ability to manage potentially contentious interactions and the ability to strike a balance between oversight and getting buy-in from the businesses
  • Critically analyses and evaluates all available information and possible outcomes when making decisions at operational and/or strategic level
  • Excellent prioritisation when dealing with conflicting demands
  • Ability to interact comfortably with senior level management and board members
  • Confidence in dealing with change and ambiguity
  • Highest degree of ethics and integrity

  • Eligible to work in the UK
  • Awareness of the regulatory requirements in respect of ‘advised’ and ‘non-advised’ sales, and in particular evidencing the standards and knowledge required in respect of giving advice and making recommendations to customers
