Job Description

Underwriter - up to 35,000 plus bonus and benefits

To assess the risk, accurately underwrite, mandate and complete mortgage and secured loan applications to ensure that we minimise risk to the business and have strong focus on service delivery by following group lending criteria, policies and procedures. Proactively managing broker relationships, ensuring that a positive, professional image is portrayed, by acting as a point of contact for our brokers and delivering a high level of service to increase future business.

You will be joining a team of 18, including administration support and management.

This is an office based role with flexing start and finish times.

Key Accountabilities
  • To professionally assess all cases from direct customers and broker intermediaries in order to make informed underwriting decisions that are in line with company policies, procedures and lending criteria.
  • To accurately assess the risk and provide a rationale on each application ensuring that the loan is affordable, plausible and sustainable. Providing a mortgage offer to the applicant(s) within the agreed service level.
  • To have a strong focus on fraud avoidance at all stages of an application, ensuring timely investigation, escalation and reporting, to minimise risk to the business and customer.
  • To proactively manage a pipeline of cases on an end to end process for both pre and post offer, ensuring that information is proactively requested from brokers and third parties within agreed Service Level Agreement's
  • To liaise directly with acting solicitors, obtaining the required completion documentation before ensuring funds are drawn down in line with the agreed completion dates
  • To act as a point of contact for intermediaries to answer their general and case specific queries
Qualifications

Essential Experience
  • Previous residential underwriting experience within the secured lending and residential mortgage market.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to make positive lending decisions.
  • Ability to work under pressure and work to strict deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience of dealing with customers.
  • Experience of managing broker relationships
  • Strong planning and organisational skills.
  • Possess strong objection handling and problem solving skills.
  • Good team player.
Qualifications Required

CeMAP 1,2&3

GCSE (minimum Maths and English A-C)

Or equiviklent
