Overview / Responsibilities

Role/Responsibilities:

Purpose:

UAV Pilot supporting multi-contract planning and execution for Wood Power Solutions UK.

Key Aims and Objectives:

  • Provide enhanced survey data-capture and mapping services to support lean execution.
  • Lead a ‘right first time’ approach through the deployment of UAV-led Quality Control Inspections.
  • Champion the introduction of new ways of working, protecting our people, and project execution through the innovative use of aerial technology.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Planning

  • Coordinating with Engineering Manager/Director to determine project requirements and objectives.
  • Support bid preparation ensuring Wood’s UAV offerings are clearly defined.
  • Scheduling and coordinating flights, aligning capacity with priorities and expectations.
  • Maintaining and documenting compliance with CAA Regulations.
  • Support the development of UAV Work Instructions and RAMS.
  • Relaying planned flight details to Site Management, and Plant Management.
  • Identification of resource/spotter in-situ to support flights.
  • Support Plant Management in ensuring equipment and accessories are routinely inspected/maintained.
  • Coordinating logistics of equipment.
  • Coordinate with Engineering Manager/Director in thorough journey/lookahead planning.

Flights

  • In-situ pre-flight planning/testing, ensuring safety of self and nearby workers.
  • Operating UAV’s to achieve project objectives.
  • Chair flight debriefs, and communicate flight details to Senior Management.
  • Maintaining thorough flight logs and equipment condition/maintenance assessments.

Data

  • Coordinating with Engineering Manager/Director and HVEC to ensure timely data transfer.
  • Expedite creation, receipt, and evaluation of HVEC survey/inspection reports.
  • Maintain certification and communicate renewal requirements in advance.

Skills / Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience:

Essential

  • Registered UAV Pilot/Flyer ID.
  • Valid A2 Certificate of Competency.
  • Skilled in the use of VTOL systems.
  • Skilled in both UAV Surveying and Inspection activities.
  • Excellent understanding of CAA Regulations as it applies to UAV’s (The Drone and Model Aircraft Code).
  • Ability to manage UAV data processing and good computing skills.
  • Diligent attitude towards maintaining records.
  • Full UK driving license.

Desirable

  • Valid General VLOS Certificate (GVC).
  • Experience working within the Transmission and Distribution industry and navigating OHL Assets.
