This role entails…


We are looking for 2 Trainee Building Maintenance Services Engineers to work within our maintenance engineering departments at both our Leeds and Manchester sites.


This role will give the successful candidates the opportunity to gain a better knowledge and understanding of the role building maintenance engineering services plays within the day to day operations of a broadcast and production site, whilst studying for an academic qualification at a recognised college or university.


They will be an integral member of the maintenance engineering operations team and will assist their Operation Manager and engineering colleagues in the effective and efficient running of the building engineering services across the ITV sites.


It is expected that the Trainee Building Maintenance Services Engineers will act in a professional and responsible manner at all times maintaining good working relations with ITV stakeholders, production teams, site management, our chain of sub-contractors, colleagues, suppliers and with the general public. There may be the requirement upon occasions to work outside normal working.


Key responsibilities:


  • To learn the day to day skills required to provide building maintenance and repairs of all types of plant and fixed assets
  • Undertake, with supervision, small electrical/mechanical/AC installations and complete the relevant certification
  • To learn and understand the requirements and implications, to yourself and others, of the company’s current health and safety policy
  • To act professionally and promote the company’s best standards and practices
  • To learn and ensure health and safety procedures are followed at all times
  • To learn how to deliver the highest possible service to ITV stakeholders
  • To learn how to follow PPM schedules and respond to reactive breakdowns in a timely manner including statutory compliance PPM’s (water hygiene, emergency lighting, etc)
  • To be proactive in looking for innovation and energy saving opportunities
  • To learn how to operate and interrogate the site Building Management System
  • To assist other members of the engineering team and the Workplace Services team as required
  • To be flexible and willing to travel to other ITV sites as and when required
  • Any other reasonable task required to support the ITV business needs

To be considered for this opportunity you will need to demonstrate the following minimum role criteria:


  • A qualification or experience in electrical or mechanical/AC discipline (and able to supply certificates etc when required)
  • Proven attendance within a related course in higher education (and able to supply certificates etc when required)
  • Have an understanding and demonstrable interest in the maintenance industry in general

  • Previous knowledge of the building maintenance industry
  • Desire to learn new engineering skills
  • Strong IT & computer skills
  • Ability to be innovative and proactive in your approach to work
  • Strong communication skills when dealing with stakeholders at all levels of the business
  • Ability to problem solve and show logical thought processes
