How you’ll make a difference

As a Team Manager - Business Support, you’ll help front line teams deliver some of the most important and valued work done by local authorities including supporting social workers to deliver services to vulnerable members of our community.
Our business support function is critical to the services we deliver to our most vulnerable residents and service users and provides a wide range of public-facing services to include statutory safeguarding (children and adults) and education support responsibilities.
What will you be doing?
  • Currently we have four main business support teams who are managed day to day by experienced Business Support Team Leaders and these will form part of your team who will be line managed and supported by you.
  • Initially your will focus on bring together the business support management team, ensuring current practices and processes are working efficiently and consistently, whilst sustaining an excellent service.
  • You will lead on several cross departmental functions, such as service and business planning, committee support, departmental communications, equalities, business continuity planning, accommodation and other departmental initiatives.
  • You will have the opportunity to develop and grow the service, by using your initiative and innovate ways of identifying improvements to the way we work.

What we need from you

  • You will have a professional qualification in management or a relevant technical area, or equivalent level of experience in a similar role.
  • You will have leadership and management experience, including motivating staff to achieve organisational objectives and ensuring they understand the changing environment in which they are delivering services
  • You will have proven ability to develop in-depth understanding of legislation and to critically apply this knowledge to recommend and implement improvements in service planning and monitoring.
  • You will have significant in-depth experience of business, equalities planning and monitoring and development and business continuity management in a Local government or other public sector setting.
  • You will have excellent strategic awareness including the ability to see the bigger picture and have proven skills and experience in the monitoring and quality-assuring of business and strategic plans against corporate and statutory requirements.
  • Overall we are looking for you to be a positive, enthusiastic, motivated individual with a ‘can do’ attitude to lead and offer strategic change and oversight of the Business Support function.
