Systems Engineer – Machine Functional Safety Rocester, Staffordshire

To £38,000 + benefits

This is an interesting opportunity for an systems engineer or functional safety engineer to support the development of new systems and products within an established machine manufacturing company.

The role would be aligned to functional safety engineering but the company is open to considering engineers with systems engineering, systems integration or validation backgrounds that are familiar with functional safety processes, standards or methods.

Key requirements: Functional Safety Engineer

  • Proven track record in systems engineering, systems integration, validation or functional safety engineering
  • Good whole vehicle / machine systems appreciation (mechanical, electrical, electronic etc)
  • Exposure to relevant functional safety standards – ISO13849, ISO26262 or IEC 61508
  • Good analytical experience- e.g. DFMEA, FTA, reliability etc

Background:

The company is involved with the design, development, and manufacture of a broad range of machinery / vehicles for the construction and agricultural industries. The technologies you will be exposed to are broad and complex (e.g. ranging from hydraulic systems and control, through to collision avoidance, autonomous functionality, fuel cell / electric / hybrid powertrain systems etc.)

Products are aligned to the machinery directive and associates machine safety standards (ISO13849)

You will have the opportunity to help steer and guide future products through functional safety and systems engineering activities.

Skills / Experience required: Functional Safety / Systems Engineer

  • Ideally a degree or masters in a relevant subject (e.g. mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, systems engineering, electronics etc.)
  • Proven track record in systems engineering, systems integration, validation or functional safety engineering
  • Good whole vehicle / machine systems appreciation (mechanical, electrical, electronic etc)
  • Exposure to relevant functional safety standards – ISO13849, ISO26262 or IEC 61508
  • Good analytical and modelling / simulation experience- e.g. DFMEA, FTA, reliability, Matlab, Simulink, etc
  • A background in systems design, integration or analysis within a similar field would be great

Others (beneficial):

  • Knowledge of control systems, autonomous systems, ADAS, electric vehicle / hybrid powertrain systems could be an advantage
  • An appreciation of software engineering and electronics development may also prove useful

The role would be based onsite in Rocester, Staffordshire (not remote) and is commutable from Stoke on Trent, Derby, Nottingham, Birmingham, Uttoxeter, Stafford and Burton.
