Job overview

We have a new opportunity for an efficient and enthusiastic person to join the Therapies department as an Occupational Therapy Support Worker across both the Burns and Plastics and Elective Orthopaedics services. Although the role will primarily be administrative and clerical in nature, you will also have opportunities to assist colleagues clinically.

  • The Burns and Plastics Service is a regional leader for adult and children’s burns services in the East Midlands. We are privileged to work with patients throughout their treatment journey from inpatient to outpatient, with a focus on scar management and rehabilitation.

  • The Nottingham Elective Orthopaedic Occupational Therapy Team endeavour to contact patients prior to admission to carry out an assessment of their current function, prepare and educate them regarding admission, surgery and post-op rehabilitation and establish any need for equipment provision. The service also provides tailor made splint or braces after surgery.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will need to demonstrate initiative, flexibility and skills related to administrative and clerical tasks. Responsibilities will include competent use of a number of hospital systems, lead on daily clinic preparation, maintaining clinical equipment and stock management. Due to the nature of the services and potential vulnerabilities of the patient group, excellent communication skills are essential as you will liaise with the wider multidisciplinary team to help coordinate care and highlight concerns related to safeguarding. Clinical support opportunities may include assisting clinicians with holding limbs during fitting of splints/braces and equipment loan ordering to facilitate discharge from hospital. Moreover under supervision of a clinician, you may support patient assessment and triage through information gathering from patients, medical records, and virtual care platforms.
