SUPPLIER DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER - FTC (12 months)

We are seeking a Supplier Development Engineer for our location in Derby on a 12 month fixed-term contract, to develop our supplier capacity and drive continuous improvements across our supplier base.

About The Job

Reporting to the Supplier Development Manager you will be responsible for improving, maintaining and driving improvement within the supply chain to deliver measurable benefits to Incora.

You will project manage supplier improvement projects across the supply base whilst providing technical support and guidance around supplier development within the department and cross-functionally to influence decisions on supplier development.

THE ROLE

The Supplier Development Engineer is responsible for the overall management of the supplier relationship with a key focus on:
  • Drive improvements utilising Lean methodologies, supplier scorecards and own supplier assessments; ensuring supplier compliance whilst driving systematic problem solving and process improvement plans
  • Undertake planning, capability and capacity assessments on suppliers and drive subsequent closure of corresponding action plans to reduce supplier risk
  • Build relationships with designated supplier leadership teams to influence improvement activities within the supplier and to promote continuous improvement
  • Lead and participate in improvement activities to enhance business performance
  • Attend supplier site meetings to drive supplier performance and complete supplier assessments; travelling where necessary
  • Collaborate with other internal functions (such as Quality) to drive supplier development
The Supplier Development Engineer will conduct the following activities with suppliers;
  • Onsite supplier engagement
  • Conduct supplier assessment audits
  • Drive closure of actions identified in assessment
  • Capacity analysis
  • Root cause analysis of performance gaps
  • Continuous improvement activities
  • Ad-hoc assessments
Key Responsibilities

About You
  • Relevant manufacturing/engineering degree preferred, ONC, A Levels, City & Guilds Level 3, BTEC National Diploma or equivalent qualification and/or substantial relevant experience in a supplier management role
  • Good understanding and knowledge of shop floor planning and control processes in a manufacturing environment (preferably aerospace); in particular identifying and developing improvements
  • Lean/6 Sigma certification or experience similar business / continuous improvement techniques
  • Proven experience of leading projects with multiple stakeholder engagement to achieve deadlines
  • Good working knowledge of ISO9001 and AS9100 or AS9120
  • Solid experience in supplier development including experience of conducting supplier assessments and developing subsequent action plans
  • Strong analytical knowledge; ability to interpret large data sets to identify root causes / trends and form action plans to identify performance / process improvement
  • Knowledge of aerospace industry and customer standards desirable
  • Excellent relationship building skills both internally and externally
  • Ability to influence others (up to a senior level) to reach agreement and action
  • Intermediate knowledge of Excel; pivot tables, vLookups and charts
  • Good verbal and written communication skills; confidence to deliver presentations stakeholders
  • Good facilitation skills; fostering collaboration and cooperation
