SQL Database Administrator (DBA)

As a Barclays SQL Database Administrator you will provide 3rd line support for Microsoft SQL technologies within the bank’s estate globally. You will report into the Database Manager and will be a key technical leader in the delivery of the database services, utilizing your excellent technical knowledge and experience to proactively define and develop the environment and procedures, and be an expert trouble-shooter for major or critical service incidents.

What will you be doing?

  • Providing ownership and leadership of technical resolution for high severity production incidents (Sev 3 high, Sev 2 and Sev1)
  • Being responsible for technical engagement in Incident, Problem and Change as part of BAU Operations activities
  • Involving and driving estate wide MS SQL patching, Scheduled Disaster Recovery/Production Crossover exercises and estate wide remediation and rollouts
  • Adhering to Barclays standards for change control, database security and database patterns as well as adhering to bank’s governance and control procedures
  • Communicating complex technical issues to a wide audience, e.g. Business owners, Directors and Managing Directors and those from a non-technical background
  • Acting as technical point of contact for technical queries across Investment Bank regarding MS SQL databases and providing on-call L3 rota support if required
  • Analysing re-occurring incidents and identifying service improvements where possible
  • Being an effective, proactive team member, influencing the behaviour of colleagues internally and across Infrastructure Services

What We’re Looking For

  • Expert knowledge of database administration on distributed platforms and Expert knowledge of T-SQL, solid Powershell scripting experience
  • Experience with setup/configuration/support of SQL Server 2008,2008R2, SQL2012, SQL2014,2016,2017,2019
  • Experience configuring all components of the MS SQL Product set (Core DB engine & SSRS, SSAS, SSIS, Replication topologies, Service Broker, Log Shipping, Database Snapshots etc.
  • Extensive experience as Production support SQL Server Database Administrator with experience in large, high volume/high criticality environments

Skills That Will Help You In The Role

  • MS SQL Certified (MCDBA or the like) would be beneficial
  • AWS and/or Azure certification would be helpful in the role
  • Experience of working in a highly regulated environment and the associated processes and tools would be desirable

You will be based in Radbroke, Knutsford. The Barclays Technology Campus just outside Manchester is our tech command centre and a vital strategic powerhouse behind our global operations.
