In this role you will Support the project teams in delivering their outcomes on a broad range of Space Programme projects. Provide timely, impartial, evidence-based advice to customers to enable them to make informed decisions representing “best value” and a return on investment.

The Dstl Space Programme Missions Team provides high quality broad based subject matter expertise to UK MOD Space Missions and Space Capability Development. The role requires the holder to provide technical leadership, supporting technical project and programme management teams for the full space mission lifecycle.

They will be expected to support the delivery of multiple space capability prospective products, from full satellite solution delivery to payload unit delivery, and ground segment capability development and operation. They will be expected to have sufficient domain knowledge to support system and subsystem level technical development, and product development oversight.

They may also have focused expertise on specific satellite and ground segment subsystems, including AOCS, Payload Processing and Integration, Communication (civil & military) TT&C, Data Handling, Software (OBSW/EGSE), Thermal, Electrical Power, Structural and Operations, with a solid working knowledge of complementary domains and subsystems.

Responsibilities

We are looking for someone who has:
  • A strong background of satellite technologies for the space segment and / or ground segment
  • Experience in space system technical disciplines through all phases of a mission development, typical systems experience may include:
  • Power systems
  • TT&C systems and design, including encryption techniques;
  • Satellite structural design and materials;
  • Thermal management system design, modelling and integration;
  • Electro-Optic and Radio Frequency based sensor payloads;
  • Spacecraft software design and assurance;
  • Assembly, Integration Test.
  • Knowledge and application of Systems Engineering processes.
  • Strong presentation, written, and negotiation skills.
  • Effective co-ordination and organisational methods.
  • Focused support for the development of a range of UK Space Missions, and related activities, providing technical expertise on the design, development, integration and operational implementation of UK MOD satellite missions.
  • Co-operative relationship development in a multi-team environment.
  • Developing plans of work against contract and service requirements.
  • The desire to keep learning and developing.
  • Data processing and associated networks.
