Job content

Led by five Partners, our national construction team has presence in our London, Southampton, Bristol, Birmingham and Manchester offices.

As part of our construction team, you’ll work on construction and engineering contracts which support the creation of all sorts of developments, including residential and retail, infrastructure and renewable energy. You will help to shape the world we live in.

While the quality and complexity of work available is high, because you will be based in a relatively small team, you’ll get plenty of access to, and work closely with, the London partners and other lawyers within the team and beyond, giving you a more rounded perspective.

We want to invest in your career, and help you to become a recognised expert in your own right, so you will have plenty of one to one development and encouragement, while also having a good amount of client contact and early responsibility. We think it’s a great place to hone your skills.

We’ll also expect you to be involved in business development activities and you will be encouraged to get involved in networking and marketing activities. We are highly sector and client focussed, so spending time in the business community and getting to know and understand the clients you support will be part and parcel of your general role at Clarke Willmott.

This is a busy role, with deadlines to manage and competing priorities, so you will be required to work quickly, accurately and efficiently and remain calm under pressure. You will be expected to think ahead to meet the needs of the other fee earners and our clients.

We are looking for someone with a passion for this type of work in whom we can invest on a long-term basis.

It is an integral part of this role that you comply with information security and all firm policies and procedures.

About you

You will be able to demonstrate a keen intellect and the ability to grasp complex concepts and information and apply them practically to real world situations.

The work requires self-motivation and the ability to work to demanding deadlines, so you’ll need to show us that you have initiative, drive and great organisational skills.

You will want to work hard, but we don’t expect you to work late every night. Yes, there are deadlines to meet and occasional late nights, but we don’t believe that long hours are healthy or produce great client service. This is an environment with a sensible balance between challenging work and a life beyond it.

You will be a team player, relish helping others and be eager to learn. We expect you to be someone who takes pride in your work and who will provide a first class support service to your fee earners, anticipating their needs in advance wherever possible, and paying meticulous attention to detail in all of your work.
