Job description

Summary

Do you enjoy a good day out? Do you know how to help others enjoy theirs?

Do you love working and meeting people of all ages and backgrounds? As the Visitor Welcome Assistant it’s your role to ensure that every aspect of our visitor experience is going to delight our customers.

Please be available on Thursday 5th May – we will be interviewing at Cherryburn on this day. We will telephone you on 2 or 3rd of May to arrange a suitable time.

What it’s like to work here

Cherryburn is a Northumbrian farmstead and the birthplace of famous artist and naturalist Thomas Bewick, in Mickley nr Stocksfield. Bewick is perhaps Northumberland’s greatest artist: a wood engraver and naturalist who revolutionised print art in Georgian England. Set in a tranquil garden with views across the Tyne Valley, Cherryburn is surrounded by the natural world that inspired his work.

We are open to our visitors on a Thursday and Friday, so those are the days you will be working. We operate a booking system, so our visitors are welcomed with a very personal touch – introducing the property, the history and sharing the joy.

We are a small team at Cherryburn, you will be working alongside another Visitor Services Assistant to provide that warm ‘Northern’ welcome to all. You will be based outside for most of the day, so will love the fresh air and the thought of being stuck behind a desk is not for you. We really want all our visitors to have a really great day, we want them to leave wanting to come back.

A normal day will be checking the bookings, making sure the site is ready and safe to be open. Each booked visitor will receive a ‘tailored’ Cherryburn welcome, sharing the history of the place, and the stories of the people that lived here.
