We’re all about involving people in our stories, changing perceptions about who we are, and growing the nation’s love of nature, beauty and history – and our social media team is integral to this.

If building an engaged online community is at the heart of what you do, and you can you paint a picture of the places we care for - in fewer than 280 characters - you might be the person we’re looking for.

Salary £33,535– £35,000 dependent on experience.

What it’s like to work here

Your contractual location will be our head office in Swindon, however there will be an opportunity to explore and agree remote working arrangements which strike the right balance for you and the Trust. The role will require you to travel to our head office to meet with stakeholders and to carry out work at times.

We are a close-knit and supportive team, who work at pace, often juggling a broad range of conversations on our social media channels, whilst leading for creative and quality content. We enjoy bouncing ideas off each other, whether it’s taking advantage of a trending hashtag, sharing ideas in our creative seasonal planning sessions, or forming the perfect reply on Twitter. Alongside day to day community management, content creation and supporting our marketing campaigns, the team often need to quickly respond to external media stories about the Trust. This role reports into our social media manager, alongside one other senior social media executive. You will be responsible for line managing two of our social media executives, supporting their development and wellbeing.

What you’ll be doing

Working as part of our Marketing team, this role is a social media specialist. You’ll be responsible for managing and growing the social communities of the National Trust, supporting our social media executives in responding to hundreds of queries and comments on a daily basis, and working with internal stakeholders to ensure that stories from across the Trust are told in an engaging way.

You’ll need to know your stuff – as a key member of our experienced social media team, you’ll be central to ensuring that we choose the right channels and messages to reflect our cause.

By evaluating and measuring our social media activity against agreed metrics, including content creation, moderation, relationship building and optimisation, you’ll make sure that we’re developing and learning through all that we share.

Who we’re looking for

You could be currently working as a social media or communications professional within a digital marketing agency, or perhaps you’re on the client side working in a senior social media role for a large brand.

Whatever your background in communications and marketing is, you’ll have a wealth of digital expertise and will know the social media industry inside out.

  • A strategic thinker, you’ll be used to channel planning and optimising to maximise marketing performance. You’ll be comfortable managing social media professionals and representing social media in meetings with senior stakeholders. But above all else, you’ll be a collaborative worker, inspiring all who cross your path.
  • You’ll have a strong understanding of what engaged online communities need, you’ll take customer service in these spaces seriously, and you’ll be following relevant market trends.
  • You work well under pressure, having experienced large volumes of incoming queries and messages, managing sensitive conversations across a range of social media channels.
  • Able to combine your social media knowledge with your strong creative and editorial skills, you’ll not just see the opportunities for our stories, but inspire and excite people about them.
  • Most importantly, you’ll love the places and spaces we look after as much as we do - and want to share them with as many people as possible - you’ll join us with a hunger to work for an organisation that makes a difference.
