Senior Social Consultant

Senior Social Consultant

Rina is currently seeking a full-time Senior Social Consultant who will form part of the Project Financing Environmental & Social Compliance team in Brighton, UK or Cape Town in South Africa that collaborates with other RINA teams and is involved in various Environmental and Social Due diligence (ESDD) and Environmental & Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) projects across the globe.
The role includes, but is not limited to the following:
  • Evaluation and compliance with lender’s social standards such as IFC Performance Standards, as well as external independent monitoring activities for the benefit of Lenders
  • Conducting and evaluating Social Impact assessments, engaging the local community’s representatives
  • Human risk assessments
  • Development and implementation of environmental and social management systems
  • You will be responsible for the development of Stakeholder engagement plans and should have the ability to develop grievance management tools, social policies, management plans and procedures in general.
  • Preparation of proposals with a methodical approach, defining the key proposal assumptions.
  • Work with the different divisions in RINA to develop ‘cross selling’ and mutual opportunities with clients.
  • Highlight opportunities for RINA to use its expertise and technology to drive innovation supporting competitive calls.
Project Management
  • Ensure delivery of project outputs on time and on budget to a very high standard, ensuring client satisfaction.
  • Playing a crucial role in the quality assurance of all work within the team, undertaking QA and checking of others work, reporting and deliverables.
  • Responsible for delivering a pipeline of work using the most appropriate resources available.
  • Meet budgetary objectives and adjust project constraints based on financial analysis.
  • Track and report performance of projects.
  • Develop comprehensive project plans to be shared with clients and teams.
Qualifications and experience:
  • Degree in human rights, sociology, anthropology, public policy, socioeconomics, environment, or sustainability.
  • Minimum 10 years of extensive experience in ESDD, External Monitoring and ESIA for Project Financing purposes with particular focus on Land Acquisition, Resettlement and livelihood restoration, Stakeholder Engagement Plan, Gender Action Plan and inclusivity, Human Rights, Labour standards, Indigenous people development as per IFC performance standard/ world bank guidelines.
  • Should be conversant to IFC, World Bank Guidelines, Equator Principles, EBRD Performance Requirements, etc.
  • Autonomous and self-motivated.
  • Strong communication skills; excellent technical writing skills.
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • International profile with the ability to work with a geographically dispersed team.
  • Ability to build and sustain client relationships and adapt to ever-changing client demands.
  • Ability to see the opportunities for improved performance and act upon them.
  • Flexibility to travel, as needed (one/two weeks travel).
  • Excellent capability in speaking & writing in English.
  • Additional languages, especially French and Spanish are considered a plus.
