Geotechnical Engineer

RINA Consulting is seeking an experienced geotechnical engineer to be based from our Brighton office (other locations will be considered) to strengthen support to our existing clients base and promote our services for new UK based clients. You will report to the Geotechnics group manager based in Genoa, although you will be required to independently perform assigned tasks on-ground characterization and geotechnics consultancy projects. On top of technical assignments, the role involves working alongside RINA Consulting UK business development structure, with significant client exposure. The role may involve occasional trips to RINA’s Italian offices in Genoa and Milan, depending on project requirements.

Main tasks
  • Geotechnical characterization including interpretation of in-situ testing, definition and interpretation of lab test programs/results, definition of design parameters, integration with geophysical data
  • Onshore and offshore geotechnical assessments including foundation design, soil-structure interaction, pipe/cable-soil interaction assessments and geohazard related engineering assessments
  • Occasional offshore work on geotechnical investigation/installation vessels


Requirements
  • Master’s or PhD Degree in Geotechnics related field.
  • Availability to travel worldwide on short/mid-term assignments and ability to work offshore
  • 4-6 years of working experience in offshore Geotechnics
  • Experience in the use of the main geotechnics software packages (Plaxis, Gint, GRLWeap, etc.) or programming languages is considered a plus
  • Ability to work well under supervision, personal initiative, and resourcefulness
  • Ability to work on several projects simultaneously, sometimes under pressure, and always within deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English) are essential, with a high attention to detail


Desirable Experience
  • Planning, execution, and interpretation of Site Investigations for offshore wind farms
  • Geotechnical assessment for inter-array or HV cables, including burial risk assessment, trenching assessment, etc.
  • WTG foundation design
