Data Science & Analytics Senior Consultant

RINA is a 160 year old global consultancy servicing multiple industries and is looking for a Senior Data Science & Analytics (DS&A) Consultant to join the Space & Defence business unit, due to continued growth and success.
If you are driven by diversity of project work, then look no further. Our DS&A team provides analytics expertise to the British Army, Royal Air Force, Royal Navy and Defence suppliers. We deliver real value to our clients: our data driven solutions reduce costs, optimise processes and drive energy efficiency. For example, you will exploit machine learning to predict equipment failures and its remaining useful life. If that is not enough, you will have the opportunity to contribute to our UK Renewables, Power and Asset Integrity projects, along with collaborating with our international colleagues on National Infrastructure and European Space Agency projects.
Now is the time to join to help accelerate and shape the capability. You will join an environment that encourages curiosity, creativity, and challenges the status-quo.

Responsibilities will include:
  • Manage projects through the full life cycle from business winning through to project closure; develop end-to-end solutions to challenging problems.
  • Propose new ideas and collaboratively explore related avenues of interest to meet emerging market demands.
  • Perform detailed analytical studies under the direction of the DS&A lead consultant.
  • Deliver data modelling and analytics project outputs.
  • Adopt best practice in the design, development and use of mathematical models.
  • Provide support to bids, proposals and other business development activities.
  • Develop innovation initiatives to support future growth.
  • Help shape and develop the team.
Experience required

We recognise that data science and analytics are very broad terms and mean different things to different people. The most important thing for us is that you are curious, creative, and driven to learn.
We are look for the following:
  • Degree qualified or equivalent experience in an engineering or mathematical discipline.
  • Practical experience of using the following tools to solve business problems: Microsoft Excel and VBA, Power BI, Python and SQL.
  • At least four years’ experience in mining and analysing data to drive optimisation and improvement of product development and business strategies.
  • Experience of assessing the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and developing custom data models and algorithms to apply to the data sets.
  • Full life cycle project management, ideally leading small teams.
  • Practical experience of using some of the following simulation techniques: Discrete-event, agent-based and system dynamics.
  • Knowledge of machine learning techniques.
  • Capacity to formulate and structure problems and identify the most appropriate approach.
  • Demonstrable ability to read, understand, assess, and implement new techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills to inform and influence a variety of stakeholders through presentations and written reports.
  • An understanding of UK MOD procurement processes is an advantage.
  • Current SC clearance, or able to achieve clearance.
