Are you an experienced and influential public affairs professional? Do you want to help create and implement a programme of public affairs work that will maximise Macmillan’s ability to improve the lives of everyone living with cancer? If so, we’d love to hear from you.

At Macmillan, we understand how important it is that our workforce is representative of the people we support, and who support us. We particularly welcome applications from Disabled, Minority Ethnic and / or LGBTQ+ candidates who are under-represented in our organisation at this level.

We strive to ensure that every individual is empowered to bring their best to work, and that’s why we offer flexibility in our working locations, hours and a range of benefits, to ensure we support you in your life and career ambitions.

This role is ‘dual location’ – working from home, with 1 - 2 days a week at our headquarters in Vauxhall, London. The working hours are 34.5 hours a week but with flexibility on start and finish times and we are determined to ensure our roles are accessible to Disabled candidates and people with caring or childcare responsibilities.

About the role
Macmillan is currently at a pivotal point in implementing its current ambitious strategic priorities and this is an exciting opportunity take a leading role in a busy, high-performing public affairs team at a time of significant political change.

Macmillan has set the agenda with hard-hitting advocacy to ensure people living with cancer cannot be forgotten during the pandemic. We are currently prioritising access to personalised cancer services and the financial needs of people living with cancer and have established addressing inequalities in support for people living with cancer as a major new priority, in line with Macmillan’s ambitious new organisational equality, diversity & inclusion strategy. Lived experience of cancer, inequalities or exclusion, or skills in advocating to address a lack of equity are a major asset for the post-holder.

About you
You will have an excellent understanding of parliamentary procedure, how Government policy and legislation are developed alongside a track record of creating high-impact multi-channel influencing moments that impact our target stakeholders. An understanding of the contexts, structures, and levers for influencing in health, care, finances and other areas relevant to the cancer experience would be a distinct advantage.

You will be an excellent communicator, with the ability to write persuasively for a variety of audiences. You will have experience building positive internal and external working relationships with high-level contacts and working across multiple teams to deliver results.
