How you’ll make a difference

As the Senior Infrastructure Cloud Engineer you will make a difference by your involvement and expertise in leading on the technical aspects of the Councils migration to cloud-based services, covering migration of on-premise infrastructure and applications to Azure based services. Working on projects to future-proof the Councils digital services, enabling other team members across the organisation to operate effectively on modern technology platforms. It will also include working with other areas of the IT & Digital Division to modernise public services, digitising the engagement with residents of South Gloucester.

As well as working on projects to modernise the technology estate you will also cover maintenance and management of software upgrades existing systems and platforms, responding to user calls, incidents & requests, emails or face-to-face enquiries as well as contributing to production of design documents and implementation plans.


What will you be doing?
  • You’ll have the ability to build, maintain and monitor of Azure Infrastructure- and Platform-as-a-Service environments, including building resilient and highly available services
  • You will be setting up and managing Azure monitoring services – covering service availability, performance, capacity and cost controls.
  • The role requires you to have an awareness of virtualisation technologies – specifically VMWare & Hyper-V
  • Experience of migrating on-premise systems to Azure, such as SQL database applications and web-based application.
  • You will have experience of Cost analysis and comparison of on-premise services migrating to Cloud
  • Management and support of Active Directory and Azure Active Directory within a Hybrid environment.
  • Ideally you will have knowledge of Information Security principles and practices to support the Information Security team in responding to and troubleshooting security incidents
  • You’ll be working within a team, supporting and developing others and also having the experience and confidence to work alone if needed.


What we need from you



  • You will demonstrate a proven track record of migrating services and systems to Cloud platforms within an Enterprise level organisation.
  • You will have the ability to mentor colleagues and share knowledge on
  • You will have a degree in a computer related field, or the equivalent demonstrable ICT technical expertise and/or relevant vendor technical qualifications such as, Microsoft, VMWare etc, together with a proven record of managing and delivering a service, in a complex operating environment.
  • You will need excellent working knowledge of virtual environments- in particular Azure, Hyper-V- Build / Support and administration.
  • Progressing work activities with a general professional guidelines and organisational policy, in order for you to deliver and excellent customer service.
  • You will have excellent verbal and written communications skills including report writing and explanation of technical information to non-technical audiences.
