ENGIE’s Highways Design Team is part of an established, successful and award-winning partnership with North East Lincolnshire Council. The team have secured a number of high-profile regeneration and infrastructure projects across the UK, as well as being responsible for delivery of the Local Transport Plan for North East Lincolnshire Council.

Due to continued multiple funding opportunities and a further increased pipeline of work, the ENGIE Highways Design team have an exciting opportunity to recruit a Senior Drainage Engineer to join the already established team of 15 to deliver a wide variety of major Infrastructure schemes for North East Lincolnshire Council.

What is your day to day?

  • To provide full project management to the Immingham and Grimsby element of the Doncaster, Immingham and Grimsby (DIG) Surface Water Resilience Innovation Project which was one of the 25 projects chosen to be funded by the Defra Flood and Coastal Resilience Innovation Programme over the next 6 years. The project has a potential total value in excess of £6m, of which £4M will be used for the installation of sustainable drainage measures in North East Lincolnshire.
  • As part of the North East Lincolnshire Council/Engie Regeneration Partnership, the Engie Drainage and Coastal Defence provide all the flood risk management duties and coastal defence duties required of a Lead Local Flood Authority, Highway Authority and Coastal Protection Authority. Therefore, there may be occasions where assistance with the duties listed below may be required.
  • Duty to investigate flooding, drainage and coastal defence problems in the Borough of North East Lincolnshire and develop feasibility studies and outline designs, including the evaluation of options, assessment of financial viability and compilation of reports identifying feasible, appropriate solutions.
  • Assist in the delivery and monitoring of the local flood risk management strategy.
  • Identify, design and deliver flood risk management capital works in line with the requirements of the local FRM strategy. This will include funding applications to external partners.
  • Consider the designation of features that make a contribution to flood and coastal risk management.
  • Duty to maintain a register of structures and features with an effect on flood risk.
  • Consenting on ordinary watercourses.
  • An understanding of legislation relating to flood risk management, highway drainage, land drainage and coastal defence responsibilities.
  • Supervision of contractors carrying out drainage, coastal defence and oil pollution response works to ensure that works are undertaken in accordance with approved plans and relevant specifications.
  • Frequent contact with representatives of other drainage agencies including Internal Drainage Boards, Anglian Water and the Environment Agency.
  • Frequent contact with other officers in ENGIE and our partners NELC requesting assistance with drainage problems.
  • Frequent contact with residents, local businesses and other parties affected by drainage problems. This will include property occupants and landowners who may well be unaware of their own responsibilities for drainage. Requests for drainage and coastal defence information will also be received frequently.

Qualifications

Who are you?

Essential

  • A minimum of HNC or equivalent in Civil/Structural Engineering (A)
  • At least three years’ experience within a drainage/coastal defence discipline (A)
  • Experience of supervising drainage works on site (A/I)
  • Site surveying skills (A/I)
  • Effective IT skills with the ability to use MS office (including outlook word & excel) (A/I)
  • Experience of using CAD (A/I)
  • Understanding of relevant Health & Safety legislation including the 2015 CDM Regulations
  • Experience of working to time and budget constraints with the ability to plan, prioritise and organise work to resolve problems and deliver services (A/I)
  • Ability to access sites alone, some of which will be in off-road locations (I)
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills (A/I)
  • Flexible to meet the needs of the service which may require attendance at meeting and events outside normal working hours (A/I)

Desirable

  • Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (A)
  • Experience of supervising staff (A/I)
  • Experience using drainage simulation software (A/I)
  • Knowledge of procurement processes and contract management (A/I)
  • Current driving licence (A)
  • Experience of working to time and to budget constraints (A/I)
