About The Role

We are looking for an ambitious and experienced construction orientated senior project manager to join a growing team and department. Based at the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) on Harwell Campus, the role will be supporting the delivery of a portfolio of significant construction projects, circa £250M, developing new state-of-the-art scientific facilities of national and international importance.

Within this role, you will be responsible for managing the delivery of significant and complex construction projects through all RIBA stages, ensuring schemes deliver to budget, quality and programme. You will be required to drive initiatives from the initial concept and design through to handover to operations. The nature of STFC’s science dictates that most major projects are likely to be complex, unique and often delivered at pace, requiring robust decision-making and leadership. At STFC there is no standard project, but construction schemes typically range in the region of £5m - 50m.

As a senior project manager you will have responsibility for the planning, management, coordination and financial control of multiple projects. Working closely with the Head of Construction, you will manage a small team of project managers, graduate project managers and project support staff to deliver sustainable capital projects.

About You

You will have extensive knowledge and experience in implementing construction project management processes, with a good understanding of project planning using an appropriate software package. You will hold a construction related degree qualification, or equivalent, and have an in depth knowledge of the different forms of construction including ideally managing NEC contracts. Hold, or be working towards, chartered status of an appropriate professional body (RICS, MAPM, ChPP, MCIOB, RIBA, etc.).

We are looking for someone with experience in the management of high value project delivery, who will be able to ensure that our programmes run to time, cost and quality. You will have a strong understanding of Health and Safety, well-developed commercial awareness and be committed to working to the highest professional standards to build collaborative relationships with other teams within Estates and our partner scientific departments.
