We are currently seeking applications for a Security Policy and Engagement Manager within the Directorate for Corporate Transformation based in Edinburgh. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. This rewarding post forms part of Scottish Government’s (SG) Security and Business Continuity Unit (SBC). SBC is responsible for protective security and business continuity for SG, and is currently heavily involved in the Department’s corporate response to the Covid-19 pandemic, EU Exit and COP26.

The B2 Security Manager will play a critical role in SBC’s security improvement team, working across boundaries to appraise, review and develop security policies in close partnership with SBC’s Operations team. You will also lead the Unit’s communication and engagement work, working closely with Corporate Communications to drive forward change across the whole of SG.

For the right candidate there may also be an opportunity to lead and support the delivery of physical security projects across SG, and with seniors on SG Covid-19 recovery.

This post will require the successful candidate to hold or go through National Security Vetting at Security Check (SC) level.

Essential Criteria
1. Excellent planning and organisational skills with the ability to work flexibly, and balance competing priorities to meet tight deadlines, including contribution to the delivery of milestones, embracing and developing new ways of working where appropriate.
2. Strong communication skills (verbal and written) including the ability to produce high quality written work and present information that meets the needs of the audience.
3. Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret information from a range of sources to extract relevant information to assist in decision making, policy formation or provision of appropriate current, accurate and relevant advice to Ministers and colleagues.
4. Good project management skills, with the ability to create and use tools to support the management of tasks and information flows.

The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator and have the proven ability to build and maintain excellent stakeholder relationships at all levels across a broad range of internal and external customers. They will be comfortable working with autonomy in a supportive environment, with the licence to spot gaps and opportunities to improve SG security. Experience of policy development would be desirable, or a willingness to quickly develop this. This post will require the successful candidate to hold or go through NSV at Security Check (SC) level.
