Summary

We are currently seeking applications for a Tourism Policy Adviser within the Culture, Tourism and Major Events based in Edinburgh. This is a permanent and pensionable appointment and new entrants will normally start on the minimum of the pay range. We are looking for self-motivated individuals for these new roles. Applicants must be comfortable in taking initiative and working to tight deadlines. They will be fully supported and have ample opportunity to develop policy knowledge. This role provides lots of opportunities for interactions with Ministers and external stakeholders and learning and development.

Job description

  • The post holder will work closely with their line manager, on developing policy areas, but will also provide flexible support across the team.
  • Drafting briefing for, and attending events, both in direct support of Ministers and as a representative of the Tourism team.
  • Drafting responses to correspondence, Parliamentary Questions and core briefs and commissioning and coordinating appropriate input to these as required.
  • Supporting development across a range of policy areas which may include; collaborative economy, digital tourism, marine tourism, destination support, product development, community tourism, sustainable tourism, adventure tourism, promotion of fair work and fair pay in the sector, transition to Net Zero, and other emerging areas. One of the posts will provide support on VisitScotland sponsorship. There may be scope to focus on particular individual tourism interests.
  • Although this role is primarily aimed at supporting the team in operational delivery and supporting Ministers on a regular basis, the post holder will have the opportunity to identify policy areas of interest and importance to take forward. Full support will be given in this.
  • The post also offers many development opportunities in regularly working with Government Ministers in a high profile area and additional opportunities for development will be encouraged and supported as appropriate.


Responsibilities

1. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with a wide range of partners and build effective relationships both internally and externally
2. Strong communication skills both written and verbal with ability to produce clear and concise material.
3. Experience of working in a policy environment and ability to effectively analyse data and information in order to generate advice and recommendations
4. Able to use initiative to prioritise and manage competing pressures to achieve deadlines and deliver high quality work.
