You could be a great candidate for a Security Officer at the University of Kent, predominantly based at our Canterbury Campus. Do you have the ability to assess situations and respond efficiently to emergencies? Do you have effective written communication skills and the ability to pass on verbal information clearly?

Previous experience in a similar role would be beneficial; however, it is not essential as full training will be provided. Security Officer Salary & Benefits

  • £20,134 to £21,197 per annum

The University has an estimated 20,000+ students and staff, as well as visitors, whom we have a duty to protect and secure. The Security Team maintain a safe environment by preventing crime and responding promptly to emergencies and difficult situations in line with security procedures. Our Duty Managers and Security Officers help fulfil this essential function.

Please note that this is not a part-time role, it is full-time. Part-year means working only during the Term-Time, Freshers week and also covering the weekend before each new term start date. Shifts will be mainly 4 pm to 1 am or 2 am (subject to change according to University requirements).

To be successful in this Security Officer role, you will have:

  • Good standard of literacy and numeracy, which may be evidenced by GCSE Grade C/ Level 4 (minimum) English and Maths or equivalent
  • Excellent oral communication skills and good listening skills (including the ability to clearly relay information in person and via a radio communication system)
  • Excellent written communication skills to effectively provide clear incident reports and complete relevant management documentation
  • Demonstrable skills in observation and the ability to appraise situations quickly and effectively

The Department

  • The Commercial Services and Estates Department offers this Security Officer role.
  • The Department provides a number of essential services to the University of Kent and is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the extensive grounds and buildings; the security of students, staff and visitors; transport and travel; a postal service and the University Design Print Centre.
  • It is also responsible for the buildings, new development and construction projects at Canterbury, our Medway campus at Chatham Maritime, and the Chatham Historic Dock Yard.
