ROLE PURPOSE
Our players are key to everything we do here at Rare, and a focus on ensuring that their experience is the best it can be is a central theme for this role. Whether you are a player adventuring on the seas or a partner building your livelihood through our games, you should have confidence that we do everything we can to secure and protect your experience with us. This role will bring focus to the areas of security and compliance within the studio.

The ideal candidate for the Security and Compliance Program Manager role is someone who has the skills and experience to partner with our Engineering teams across Rare and Microsoft. They will excel at focusing on the right priorities, identifying risks and sharing experience and resources with our external partners, as well as steering development of future titles on security and compliance.

Responsibilities

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Evangelise the opportunity of security for our player experience across our games and the services that support them.
  • Ingrain security into the DNA of Rare Engineering while ensuring that pace of delivery is still a priority.
  • Ensure that security and compliance is focused on value creation for our players and customers.
  • Act as security advocate and keep on top of industry best practices.
  • Proactively level up studio and title security by identifying weaknesses in our engineering and processes, helping prioritise work against existing commitments.
  • Drive the success of Xbox and our partner studios through high engagement and shared learnings/best practices. Be an active participant and contributor to the Xbox Game Studios ecosystem.
  • Partner with the site reliability team to ensure our playbooks and incident response are proactively fit for purpose and industry-leading. Embolden response teams to have confidence that they are equipped.
  • Drive cross-functional teams implementing technology which involves multiple components, interfaces, and groups.
  • Provide timely, succinct, and relevant technical guidance for our internal Engineering teams to act on during game development.
  • Drive discourse across teams to ensure Rare is compliant with (and in keeping with the spirit of) Microsoft and wider industry standards such as GDPR.

Qualifications


REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Prior work history as a program/project manager or engineer in a security role for shipped software products or services.
  • Experience of working on complex projects and learning from past failures.
  • Experience within the technology/cloud security space with established technical leadership in the field.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across organisational boundaries, build relationships and bring in ideas to achieve broader organisational goals.

DESIRABLE CHARACTERISTICS
  • Experience with Azure.
  • Experience of live service games and their unique security requirements and opportunities.
  • Knowledge of client-server network architecture for real-time games.
  • Team leadership experience.
  • Experience of working with regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience with anti-cheat and tamper solutions for game development – examples include (but are not limited to) Arxan, Denuvo, Easy Anti-cheat and Kamu.
  • Experience of putting the customer experience at the centre of the security landscape.
  • Passionate about player experience.
  • Remains engaged within the security space to ensure skills are kept current and industry trends followed.
