ABOUT ADAPTIMMUNE
Adaptimmune is a leading clinical stage cell therapy company, designing and developing curative adoptive cell therapies for treating cancer. GROUP OVERVIEW
The T cell characterisation team is concerned with the functional assessment and deep molecular profiling of cells produced by Adaptimmune’s SPEAR™ T cell manufacturing process, and of pre- and post-infusion peripheral blood samples from our on-study clinical trial subjects (among other sources). These data are utilized across the company and are critical for understanding of clinical correlates of response, as well as for ongoing Process Development.

You will contribute across all of the workstreams utilized in the group, with a primary focus on SPEAR™ T cell functional assays and will contribute to our ongoing development of our analytical capabilities as we gain deeper understanding of our patients and their responses.

ROLE OVERVIEW
The purpose of this role is to primarily conduct scientific experiments as necessary within dedicated scientific and project teams. Whilst initially requiring supervision by a more senior scientist, you will develop further scientific skills to be able to work more independently on routine experiments. You will also be responsible for the interpretation of scientific results under the supervision of a Senior/Principal Scientist.

Furthermore you may also be involved in one or more support activities to enable the smooth running of the group or laboratory and enabling company functioning toward its goals (e.g. lab steward role).

KEY TASKS
  • Conducting experiments and supporting colleagues, the group and Adaptimmune projects.
  • In collaboration with the Senior Scientists and Principal Scientists, analyse, summarise and record experimental results and maintain relevant databases and records.
  • Participate in group and project meetings and discussions.
  • Routine lab maintenance.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Mandatory:
  • Undergraduate qualification in Life Sciences, or related discipline.
  • Relevant post-graduate experience within academia or industry setting in Immunology, including an MSc or PhD.
  • Understanding of T-cell biology and/or immuno-oncology.
  • Expertise in performing and analysing T-cell functional assays and other cell biology workflows.
  • Laboratory procedures, including aseptic cell culture (ideally with primary human T-cells).
  • Ability to work independently on routine experiments with limited supervision within a reasonable time frame.
Additional/Nice To Have:
  • Working on assay development projects.
  • Flow cytometry or imaging-based assays.
  • Comfortable with assays in 384-well format.
  • Knowledge of HTA regulations and the handling donated human samples.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

Mandatory:
  • Computer literate and ability to familiarise with different IT systems.
  • Excellent numeracy and English language skills (both written and verbal).
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Ability to follow protocols.
  • Knowledge and skills to use of standard laboratory equipment (such as pipettes, pH meters, centrifuges).
  • Basic experimental design skills (use of controls, etc.), attention to detail, good time management skills, team player attitude, good communication skills.
Additional/Nice To Have:
  • Use of more specialist lab equipment e.g. flow cytometers.
