Scenic Construction Specialist - Fixed Term

Alton Towers Resort, Farley Ln; Alton
Stoke-on-Trent, STAFFORDSHIRE, ST10 4DB
United Kingdom

Who We Are

Alton Towers Resort is a front-runner in providing high quality family entertainment. Not only does the Resort have the UK’s largest theme park, but there are four premium hotels and a wealth of family activities. Whether it is performing within unique character experiences in CBeebies Land, engaging with the guests in live street theatre, presenting game shows at the hotels or performing at unique events, we are seeking experienced professionals to join our Entertainments Team!

About the Role

This is an excellent opportunity to be part of our Entertainments Scenic Construction Team within our fantastical resort. We are looking to recruit people with skills in multiple fields such as carpentry, scenic painting, prop making, sculpting, metal work and installation - to help us deliver our special events programme such as Oktoberfest, Scarefest Spectacular and Christmas product. This is a broad role touching on all aspects of scenic construction and installation on a massive scale as this is one of the largest events of their kind in the UK. We are looking for a varied team with impressive material knowledge, and creative ability with a strong and dedicated work ethic in order to bring our event to life for hundreds of thousands of people. Contract to start immediately and end 31/10/2021.

The requirements

As well as working behind the scenes, you’ll also spend some of your time in a guest-facing environment, so we need someone flexible, with a fantastic blend of creative and interpersonal skills. Your previous experience in scenic construction (be it theatre, film, event, workshop based or site specific) will have given you working knowledge of different methods of scenic production, including joinery, metal work, carving & sculpting, fiberglassing/mould making and scenic painting. Problem solving skills are a must as some of our venues are listed buildings or require installation around existing attractions at the Resort. The ability to read and work independently from plans is a definite advantage, as is willingness to utilise your wide range of skills by being both workshop based, and getting stuck in helping with the transport and installation of materials and set pieces around the Resort to any of our venues during get in/out periods. Being a great team player is crucial, and, as this is a very hands on role, the ability to lift heavy loads and work at height is a must. You’ll be happy to work in and outdoors and definitely have a passion for delivering and creating fantastic, immersive themed environments.

The Perks of the job

We’re growing fast and alongside a fun and friendly environment, we offer a fabulous package and amazing prospects. Benefits include Pension, Life Assurance, discretionary company bonus, 25 days’ holiday and, of course, a Merlin Magic Pass which gives you and your friends and family free admission to all of our attractions worldwide, as well as 25% discount in our retail shops and restaurants and 40% discount on LEGO.
