Introduction

Reporting to the Chief Design Authority (Power Solutions – Oldham), the Safety & ILS Manager role is responsible for the provision of Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) and Product Safety engineering at all phases of the product lifecycle. This includes the timely analysis of all requirements, the provision of ILS, Reliability and Product Safety support and the generation of associated documentation (such as FMEAs, FTAs, Reliability Predictions, Safety Management Plans, Obsolescence Management Plans, Safety Case Reports and Equipment Manuals) and to meet the time, cost and quality requirements of the customer and TT Electronics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare ILS Plans, Obsolescence Management Plans and Safety Management Plans, and agree these with the Chief Design Authority and Project Manager.
  • Ensure that the ILS and Safety Management activities and products align with the Project lifecycle and the customer’s document delivery requirements.
  • Carry out analyses and produce DRLs / Reports in accordance with the plans. Identify and implement any corrective actions necessary to ensure that the ILS Plans, Obsolescence Management Plans and Safety Management Plans are adhered to.
  • Make timely use of the Silicon Expert component obsolescence database in accordance with the agreed level of obsolescence tracking for each project and provide early warning to the business of any sunset dates impacting on TT Electronics product Bills of Materials.
  • Assist the Chief Design Authority in chairing the Project Safety Committee meetings and provide guidance to the Engineering Team and other stakeholders as required to ensure that PSCs are held in a timely manner.
  • For each new development project, perform a Preliminary Hazard Analysis and report new hazards via the relevant Project’s Hazard Log. Advise the Project Manager, Lead Engineer and Chief Design Authority of any new hazards identified (via the Project Risk Log) and manage the upkeep of the hazards log to take account of any changes to a product’s design.
  • Perform (and maintain) Failure Modes and Effects Analyses and Reliability Predictions in accordance with Mil-Hdbk-217F, ANSI VITA guidelines and customer-specific guidelines for each Power Solutions product.
  • Manage the Failure Reporting and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) activities on behalf of Power Solutions (Oldham) across the full product range and help ensure that regular internal Failure Review Boards are held to sentence and close down FRACAS arisings.
  • Provide ILS and Product Safety content and material / time estimates in bid proposals to assist the Business Development team in winning profitable business.
  • Maintain a level of knowledge and expertise of ILS and Product Safety such as to be regarded as an expert, contributing professionally at this level to projects and strategic development across multiple TT Electronics sites.
  • Consistently monitor the emergence of environmental legislation (as introduced through bodies such as REACH and RoHS) in order to ensure that TT Electronics are in a position of readiness to manage change within the product range / working practices.

  • Demonstrable understanding of Fault Tree Analysis and the software tools used to perform the analysis.
  • Demonstrable experience of using Mil-Hdbk-217F Notice 2 to perform Reliability Predictions.
  • Demonstrable experience of using an electronic component obsolescence management database such as Silicon Expert or Total Parts Plus.
  • Demonstrable experience of performing Failure Modes and Effects Analyses and Common Mode Failure Analyses on electronic products.
Desirable
  • Understanding of the CE marking process.
  • Understanding of the processes involved in the screening and testing of electronic components.
  • Experience of performing Stress Analyses on a list of electronic components to ensure that electrical and thermal de-rating requirements have been met for each component type.
  • DOORS Requirements Capture/Tracking Tool Experience.
  • Quality Engineering/Processes.
  • Awareness of Defence and Military Standards processes such as Def Stan 00-056 and DO-254.
Qualifications/Skills

Essential:
  • Higher National Diploma or Degree in an Engineering discipline, or equivalent Safety related qualification(s).
  • Be eligible for security clearance to the required level.
  • Have previous experience of working in an engineering business.
  • Awareness of concept development and requirements capture.
  • Experience of technical document preparation including Safety Case Reports, FMEAs, Reliability Predictions, Safety Management Plans and ILS Technical Publications.
  • Have a high level of self-motivation and an ability to work autonomously without high levels of supervision.
  • Ability to work through and decipher complex interdependencies to produce a clear ‘route map’ between requirements and solutions.
  • Excellent Communication skills, able (and willing) to articulate ideas and plans clearly to personnel at all levels within the organisation.
Desirable
  • Experience of the product development lifecycle form ’cradle to grave’.
