Mitie has a great opportunity for a Retail Elite Security Officer to join the Total Security Management Team.
Retail Elite Security Officers must be available to cover various shift patterns as well as being flexible in their approach to working locations and potential changes to working patterns.
Job objectives and responsibilities
- Work to the Assignment Instructions ensuring that all activities are accurately recorded on the correct documents, in line with both the Client’s and the Company’s Quality Procedures
Set and maintain the highest personal and professional standards as an employee of MITIE Total Security Management and adopt a total quality approach to every aspect of your work, colleagues and clients
- To create a safe environment, free from crime and the fear of crime for public and members of staff
- Engage with members and the public at all times complete with a welcoming presence
- Support the public and visitors with their queries in a friendly and polite manner by demonstrating excellent customer service
- Provide a visible security contact for all
- To detect crime through effective use of behaviour and observational techniques
- To obtain an understanding of high risk areas and associated merchandise
- To maintain a safe and secure environment for customers and employees by patrolling and monitoring premises and personnel with in a designated area of the store
To ensure the MITIE /Sainsburys core values and principles are upheld at all times.
Main duties
To deliver results for their identified area that meets or exceeds the budget and service delivery requirements through full responsibility and accountability for:
- To protect customers and colleagues from physical and verbal abuse
- To ensure the work place is a customer friendly and safe environment
- To provide a reassuring and professional security presence.
- To provide a highly visible security presence which is easily identified by both customers and colleagues whilst providing an exceptional level of customer service.
- To proactively deter and prevent anti-social behaviour, theft and criminal activity
- Liaising with the store management, Police and other external agencies when required
- Completing reports by recording observations, information, occurrences and surveillance activities.
- Utilising conflict resolution in order to diffuse difficult situations that may arise within the workplace.
- To deter till snatches, trolley pushouts and other bulk thefts
- To patrol the store and other areas and to undertake checks as required
- Utilisation of store CCTV system to gather evidence relating to incidents
- Proactively coaching instore colleagues to ensure a sound knowledge and understanding of the store risk profile
- Adhering to the established ASCONE policy and procedure in order to detect and deter shop thieves
- To be clean, tidy and properly dressed wearing full uniform, including an identity badge, which must be valid
- Attend ‘court hearings’ and demonstrate professionalism when relaying evidence, ensuring the reputation of both MITIE and Sainsburys are safeguarded.
- Ensures that reporting is accurate and meets agreed timelines
- Adopting an intuitive approach to store layout taking into consideration store demographic/associated risks.
- Ensure effective communication to officers and colleagues that create an integrated and coordinated approach to crime prevention and detection
- Be mindful at all times of the legal requirements associated with powers of arrest, detain and welfare responsibilities to ensure the personal safety of all MITIE/Sainsburys personnel and members of the public
- At all times adhere to the Sainsbury’s search policy and procedures
- Supporting colleagues by sharing best practice
- Correct use and dissemination of crime related information/intelligence in accordance with data protection procedures and legislation.
- Accurate and integrity driven reporting of all criminal activity via the use of SMART technology
- To understand and always implement the activities contained within the ‘Ways of Working’
- Ensuring behaviours and situations that endanger the health and safety and wellbeing of colleagues, customers and fellow officers are identified and rectified in a timely manner in line with company policies
- To maximise the use of BWCCTV during confrontational situations
Essential:
- SIA licenced to a minimum of frontline Security Guarding level
- A full five year checkable employment / education history
Excellent organisational and time management skills
Confident and professional working approach and appearance
- Strong customer service, client focused attitude with the ability to build good working relationships
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills – remove (repeated in “literate”…..)
- Good level of English and the ability to interact with people at all levels of various backgrounds
- Ability to work individually and as part of a team resilient and tenacious with a “can do” approach
- Flexible and adaptable
- Literate, numerate and IT skills to medium level user
- The ability to defuse potentially violent situations
- The ability to recognise nonverbal cues that indicate frustration and anger
- Be willing to work towards, if not already held, an apprenticeship as is deemed appropriate for personnel development
