Job content

Maternity services at East Lancashire Hospitals Teaching Hospital (ELHT) offer a wide range of choices for pregnancy and birth throughout the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods. There are three successful birth centres, a home birth service as well as the consultant led central birth suite. Low risk women are cared for at the birth centres whilst ladies requiring consultant led care are offered excellent facilities and birth choices within the central birth suite setting.

Currently, our continuity of carer pathway is underway in line with Better Births. This model of care enables midwives to lead and progress with all aspects of midwifery practice while offering continuity of care to women and their families. Following the National Maternity review ‘Better Births’, it is clear that models of care where women know the midwife who is caring for them throughout their journey, has a positive impact on improving safety, clinical outcomes, as well as better birth experiences. At East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, we now have four continuity of carer teams embedded within our services. We are currently developing further continuity caseload teams and are looking for dynamic, forward thinking and responsive midwives keen to join us in our journey and be involved in this exciting and inspirational change.

We take great pride in the excellent preceptorship package which we offer to our newly qualified midwives and midwives joining from other Trusts.
