An exciting opportunity has arisen for the position of Road Safety and Active Travel Assistant in The Highways Traffic Safety Team.

This is a varied and interesting role with a focus to promote and deliver road safety and active travel initiatives, including, but not limited to, Pedestrian Skills Training, Partnership with Parents Road Safety Scheme and community-based events.

As part of this role, you will also be responsible for managing a range of office, recording and ordering systems for your own workload and support to other team members, whilst maintaining good relationships with contacts and suppliers.

North Lincolnshire Council have earned an excellent and respected reputation for creating, developing and delivering effective road safety and active travel programmes and publications, which are also used and adopted by many other local authorities. The Road Safety and Active Travel Assistant has a vital role in promoting, influencing, delivering and engaging children and adults in these programmes of intervention and training.

We are a small, supportive team, who will provide excellent and extensive, fully funded training, with opportunities while you learn and develop in the role to gain recognised accreditations and qualifications. Mainly you will be excited and interested to support and deliver road safety and active travel initiatives, but there are a few other things we’d like from you:


  • You need to have good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to solve problems positively and appropriately whilst delivering targeted training.

  • You will have good time management, be able to prioritise workload, and have the initiative to seek guidance when necessary.

  • You need to be open minded to the many ways that current road safety and active travel education, training and publicity is created, developed and delivered, for example Theatre in Education, Drama Workshops, VR – Immersion, digital platforms and use of behavioural change models.

  • This is a crucial but exciting time to join our team as we adapt and develop road safety and active travel interventions, to remain effective in ever changing and challenging times.
