Job content

As a Surveyor you’ll predominantly be undertaking surveys with heavy involvement with building pathology which includes intrusive investigations and report writing throughout our Somerset stock. Areas of responsibility required will be to deliver one off projects with internal teams and external contractors as a result of your investigations for each property defect diagnosis.

At times you will also be responsible for overseeing minor works, refurbishment work, voids and general surveying.

Our customers will be a high focus for you, so you’ll ensure that the highest possible quality is provided through our services, meeting the requirements of best value, performance standards and best practice, demonstrating excellent communication skills at all levels.

You’ll be working with our Principal Surveyor mainly in the region of Somerset with the occasional cross area working within Dorset, Devon & Cornwall. A typical day could see you undertaking domestic and commercial building surveys and providing advice on matters such as construction defects, disrepair and dilapidations.

About you

You will have a relevant technical (HNC or higher) qualification in Building, Surveying, Planning or a similar technical field. You’ll have a strong working knowledge of project management techniques and be comfortable supervising multi-trade contracts from initial offer to closure.

A strength will be your time management and you’ll be experienced in working to deadlines, whilst maintaining performance and budget targets.

You’ll be used to maintain your knowledge of current methods, standards and initiatives relating to repair and refurbishment of residential dwellings.

We invest in colleagues’ careers and development through our leader and colleague development frameworks
Defined Contribution Pension and attached life assurance
Volunteering hours available to all colleagues to enable them to give back
Savings at cinemas, gyms, holidays, days out, various shops and eateries and lots more
Enhanced leave
We celebrate colleagues who go above and beyond with a range of personalised thank you and monthly and annual awards.

About Aster Group

Now is a really exciting time to join us. We’re working towards our vision of everyone has a home. It’s a bold statement but one everyone across our business is passionate about. Our purpose is to improve people’s lives. We provide safety and security through our reliable landlord services and we supply a wide range of housing options in response to the housing crisis. We believe that work isn’t somewhere you go, it’s something you do. No two days are the same here, and agile working is the norm rather than the exception.

We’re on an exciting transformation journey.

Our business strategy is clear. Our vision is bold. And what sets us apart is The Aster Way.

The Aster Way is not just a set of words. It’s a shared understanding of the way we work – creating a fair and inclusive culture. It’s a set of straightforward principles that underpin everything we do, every day. From how we lead and learn, to how we collaborate, communicate and innovate, this is how we’ll reach our vision - that everyone has a home.

At Aster, we have a customer first culture, with customers at the heart of everything we do, so we expect all our colleagues to be motivated and inspired to deliver a positive customer experience.

We’re a not-for-dividend business established in 1990 and have over £1.6 billion worth of assets. We own and maintain over 30,000 homes, provide services to approximately 90,000 customers and employ 1,300 people. The Aster Foundation is our way of giving something back. It’s the work we choose to do over and above our landlord and development activities.
