Do you have a passion for the great outdoors? Do you enjoy a practical role and working with people? If so, we have a fantastic opportunity for you in our Community team as a Ranger!

The role

As a Ranger you will provide fishing and recreation services for the public, as well as playing a key part in the smooth running of the reservoirs. A big part of the role is to encourage new customers to use our reservoirs, therefore we are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and can lead activities which showcase Wessex Water within the community.

Activities will include:

  • Helping to maintain safe and welcoming visitor spaces
  • Supporting coarse and game fishing
  • Supporting Wessex Water Education and Community events
  • Regularly liaising with local stakeholders and visitors at reservoirs
  • Working with community groups and charities
  • Helping to support public events, tours, competitions and other activities

Alongside this you will support the team delivering Wessex Water fisheries, which includes fish stocking, regulatory consents, writing weekly fishing reports, banking permit money, assisting scientific and environmental projects and maintaining the reservoir grounds and public spaces to an excellent standard.

Please note this is not your usual nine to five job, during the summer months you will be working extended hours to assist reservoir users. The annualised hours contract means that you will work less hours over the winter but still be able to rely on a monthly salary.

What do I need?

To be successful you will be a highly motivated, confident communicator and have excellent interpersonal skills. You will need to be physically fit and happy to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

In addition, you will:

  • Have a proven track record of working in land management, conservation and/or fisheries
  • Possess excellent customer service skills
  • Hold a Full UK driving licence
  • Be IT literate, including MS Office 365

Desirable experience:

  • Previous training and qualifications using strimmers, brush cutters, ride on mowers and chainsaws
  • Leisure facility management – maintaining sports grounds, buildings, equipment, estates, etc
  • Be able to work independently and using own intuitive
