Fancy working at the heart of Government? Want to make a difference to the country, and the life chances of those around you - levelling up our country and helping us turbo-boost our recovery from the pandemic? We have an exciting opportunity within the Cabinet Office’s Public Bodies’s leadership team - offering you the chance of a Glasgow based civil service career.

The Cabinet Office works at the heart of Government, across the UK, to support the Prime Minister and ensure the smooth running of government - from developing policy, to modernising public services.

We are thrilled to be recruiting at our new and second HQ in Glasgow, allowing the Cabinet Office to attract new talent and create brilliant career pathways across the UK. In particular, we welcome applications from those outside of the Civil Service and from diverse backgrounds to help us build our new Glasgow base. We are committed to diversity and inclusivity to help build a civil service that reflects the society it serves.

We have an aspiration to become the most inclusive employer across the Civil Service. We have a number of staff benefits, including flexible and hybrid working - with colleagues currently expected to be in the office for at least part of the week.

The Public Bodies Team is looking to recruit an enthusiastic and ambitious candidate at a time where ensuring outstanding public services are delivered through public bodies is more vital to UK citizens than ever.

We are responsible for overseeing the delivery of services through approximately 300 Arm’s Length Bodies, which employ c300,000 people and spend c£200bn a year. Arm’s Length bodies (ALBs) touch every aspect of public life, from advisory bodies such as the Boundary Commission for Scotland, to National Museums like the V&A.

Our ambition is to help improve outcomes for the public across Arm’s Length bodies by strengthening their governance, efficiency, efficacy and accountability through our new Public Bodies Change Programme.

This is a demanding and rewarding role - which will provide experiences and learnings that can be used to build towards a role within the Senior Civil Service. The G6 Deputy Head role will lead the delivery of our flagship Arm’s Length Body review programme, develop a new strategy for Arm’s Length Bodies and will use data so that we understand the public bodies landscape and can pilot benchmarking across Arm’s Length Bodies to drive efficiencies.

This campaign is being run on behalf of the Cabinet Office by the Government Recruitment Service.
