Business Unit Overview

A great opportunity to join a high performing, and highly regarded commercial communications and engagement team that supports one of the most diverse functions in the UK; with over 6000 commercial members in over 100 locations.

One of the highest priorities for the Civil Service is improving commercial capability across Government, a priority being driven by the Government Commercial Function (GCF).

As part of the work of the GCF, the Commercial Capability Programme has established a Government Commercial Organisation (GCO) that will recruit, retain, develop and grow senior commercial talent, helping to drive commercial best practice and improved commercial outcomes. The GCO employs senior commercial staff across all Government Departments (known as GCO Specialists). It currently employs ~1,200 GCO Specialists and is growing.

Key Accountabilities
  • Lead communications partner for the GCO community
  • Branding advisor for the GCF
  • Team support for Knowledge Hub and GCF Corporate communications
  • Manage the communications commissioning process to optimise team efficiency
  • Developing and delivering strategic campaigns using a variety of channels eg KHUB, LinkedIn, Twitter and print media
  • Collating feedback of campaigns, providing analysis and presenting findings
  • Central lead on the cross government annual Commercial Awareness Week / Summer Series events
  • Travel to other locations throughout the UK will be required and some out of hours working
  • Flexible resource, as required, to support urgent ad hoc priorities
Responsibilities

Essential Criteria:
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, with proven experience of successful engagement across government
  • Capable of confidently presenting in order to engage and communicate in innovative ways at a variety of events
  • Experience of development and delivery of communication and engagement plans
  • Experience in the coordinating and running of engagement events
  • Good copywriting skills with experience of writing high quality newsletters and other print / digital communications
  • Effective time management and the ability to prioritise competing demands
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high quality work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to use social media to promote key messages.
  • Ability to work in ambiguity and remain professional
  • Demonstrable experience of using Google Suite, Microsoft Office
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience of working with LucidPress, Canva and Adobe InDesign
  • Good understanding of the Government Commercial Function and Government Commercial Organisation
  • Qualified in PRINCE2 or Agile project management methods
  • Commercial Awareness and knowledge of Contract Management methodologies
