Summary

We are looking for a talented software engineer, with experience working in a research environment, to join Thales Training Solutions at what is an exciting time.

You will be joining an existing team of dynamic engineers to play a key role in delivering Thales’ next generation of simulation and training services.

The engineer will be working as part of an Agile Software development team, alongside the Systems engineering team, and integrating with stakeholders from the wider programme community.

Required Experience

Knowledge in the following areas is required:

C++

OO Design

Python

SCADE or GL Studio

User Interface (UI) framework, such as Qt, MFC and WinAPI

Komodo/Winrex

Simulation architecture and systems knowledge

Full software development lifecycle experience

Desired Experience

Knowledge in the following areas is desirable:

Agile software development using Software Continuous Integration & Delivery (CI/CD) ways of working

Interfacing software components into a larger systemCI tools (BitBucket, Confluence, Git, Jenkins, Jira, Maven, Nexus, SonarQube)

Significant C programming experience

Test-focused development

Micro-services

Simulation/interoperability standards (DIS/HLA/Kafka)

Software requirements capture, solution architecting and software design

Aircraft/Naval simulation system integration and testing experience

Analytical knowledge of industry standards, such as ARINC 429, AFDX, CAN

Real-time programming

Good working knowledge for some of the following mission system components:

Radar Identification, Friend or Foe IFF

Electronic Support Measures (ESM)

Electro Optics

Automatic Identification System (AIS)

TVNG

QuendisKey

Duties

As a key engineer within the team, undertake the specification, design, implementation, test and integration of software in line with company processes and to required standards

Capturing customer requirements, and in the absence of clearly defined specifications be able to understand the customer’s underlying goals in order propose software requirements.

Interface between the software design and system IVVQ teams to ensure traceable validation of software and system requirements.

Ability to interact with internal and external customers to understand their needs.

Accurately define and estimate required effort for tasks

Contribute to successfully meet project and product deliverables within schedule and to budget

Produce quality software products by ensuring interfaces are well defined and documented, as well as correctly adhered to and understood

Mentor and share knowledge with junior team members

Work closely with Systems engineering to ensure traceable verification and validation of requirements.

Provide feedback on the efficiency and effectiveness of the development environment

Additional Security Information

Due to the sensitive nature of much of the work undertaken by Thales Training Solutions, all applicants must hold or be eligible for UK MoD Security Clearance (SC level minimum)
