Job Description
As part of a growing and agile business, our Environmental Planning team is looking for a Principal Environmental Planning Consultant with a broad range of EIA/SEA and or planning experience. You will work collaboratively with a range of technical specialists on a broad range of projects, lead and coordinate EIA/SEAs and related deliverables, work closely with clients, develop new areas of business and mentor others in the team.

You’ll be instrumental in improving the environmental performance and developing impact assessments for a diverse range of projects including large scale energy and infrastructure projects, large-scale mixed-use development schemes for both private and public clients, public realm and masterplanning projects. We also work on world renowned major transport projects across the rail and highways sector, so we are looking for candidates who can demonstrate experience on these sorts of projects. We drive technical excellence in everything we do and promote a flexible and collaborative environment supported by digital innovation. You will play a key role in the successful delivery of major multidisciplinary development projects.

Responsibilities

  • Leading on the coordination and delivery of environmental work being undertaken by multi-disciplinary teams, influencing project development and delivering optimal environmental outcomes
  • Undertaking your own work to an excellent standard, and reviewing the work of others
  • Working in partnership with other members of the Impact Assessment Team across the UK
  • Proactively managing selected projects or components of projects, taking responsibility for resource allocation, managing subcontractors and quality assurance
  • Lead and support tender proposal/ bids - working as part of a project winning team
  • Providing environmental advice and support to clients, project managers and colleagues
  • Engaging with consultees and stakeholders
  • Developing outstanding reports - an ability to summarise and explain outcomes to non-technical audiences will be critical for this
  • Managing projects, overseeing our performance on technical, quality, commercial, and health and safety

Requirements

  • Good knowledge of EIA practices and procedures and a solid understanding of environmental and sustainability principles and environmental technical specialisms
  • Experience across a range of project types, ideally including energy and rail
  • Proven experience of managing and coordinating EIA screening and scoping activities and Environmental Statements including the technical review of specialist chapters
  • Practical working knowledge of the UK planning system and consenting process
  • Strong report writing, verbal and presentation skills with experience in reviewing the work of others to ensure quality
  • Experience in multi-disciplinary co-ordination and leadership of projects, with good project management and technical skills
  • Experience in consulting and negotiating with planning authorities, regulators and stakeholders
  • The ability to work as part of an established team, supervising members of staff as applicable
  • Commercial expertise, including forecasting, project management and quality assurance
  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification, preferably with chartered status or working towards
  • A valid UK driving licence
  • Desired- Experience in the delivery of SEA and/ or Integrated Impact Assessment (IIA) projects
  • Desired- Knowledge and application experience of sustainability, waste or carbon assessments
