We are the UK’s aviation regulator and recognised as a world leader in its field. Our activities are diverse, enabling the aviation industry to meet the highest safety standards and we pride ourselves on our ability to adapt to the constantly changing aviation environment.

The Role

We’re looking for a Principal Airspace Regular to lead and oversee the Engagement and Consultation regulatory function of the airspace change process. Your focus will be to manage the Engagement and Consultation team in the oversight of change sponsor’s engagement and consultation work and review gateway assessments against requirements of the seven stages of the Airspace Change Process (the process)..

One of your main responsibilities will be to provide mentorship and guidance to your area while ensuring that the teams assessment of sponsor’s engagement and consultation activities/output is being conducted to a satisfactory level. To achieve this, you will have to ensure that the team is validating submissions, auditing any supplied materials against the requirements of the process, and is capturing evidence of two-way engagement. You’ll provide advice and guidance to the CAA and industry on engaging diverse audiences with a particular focus on communities impacted by aircraft noise.

Additionally, you will be the lead Regulator on some complex/high impact airspace change proposals, it will be your role to assess the effectiveness of engagement on the process as well as the consultation strategy/approach. This will require you to look for detail on audience identification, communication requirements, materials, channel mix (use of social media, online, events etc) so that a consultation can commence. You’ll also assess the final consultation materials submitted for decision to the CAA.

You’ll also work closely with our Communications Department and Stakeholder Engagement Manager on airspace matters.

Throughout your daily duties, you will work with various bodies including communities, government, elected representatives, and the wider aviation industry, so a strong communication style is needed in the role.

About You

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has prior experience in management and leadership
  • Can develop strong, constructive relationships with contacts throughout the CAA and externally, thereby providing efficient and effective delivery and customer service
  • Is able to formulate techniques and strategies for effective engagement and consultation and across a variety of styles such as face to face, online, and the different formats of each of these. A communications or engagement background would be ideal
  • Has excellent communication skills both written and verbal, being able to translate complex information for non-technical audiences
  • Has a high level of commitment, reliability and flexibility
  • Has knowledge of the CAA, UK aviation industry and an awareness of Air traffic control regulatory bodies and air traffic management technologies is desirable.

What Can We Offer You?

You’ll work in a dynamic environment – no ACP submission and assessment are the same as the last! You’ll regularly interact with the wider team, gaining their input from an economic and environmental perspective. This will enable you to gain exposure of other related areas and to develop a broad understanding beyond the engagement and consultation space. At times you’ll also work on high profile changes and engage with MPs and at government level.

This is a unique and varied role, and an opportunity to join the CAA at an exciting time.
