We are the UK’s aviation regulator and recognised as a world leader in its field. Our activities are diverse, enabling the aviation industry to meet the highest safety standards, and we pride ourselves on our ability to adapt to the constantly evolving aviation environment.

The Role

The CAA’s Medical Department, based at Aviation House, Gatwick Airport, provides some of the CAA’s most important services. Its primary role is the effective regulation, implementation, and assessment of medical requirements for professional flight crew, private pilots, air traffic controllers and cabin crew. As well as this, the Medical Department also oversees the approval and continued certification of Aeromedical Centres (AeMCs) and an Aeromedical Examiner (AME) network.

As part of our growing responsibilities, the CAA are looking to contract Neurology Consultant on a part time basis, more specifically one day a week or 0.2 FTE.

The roles will include clinical consultations with pilots and air traffic controllers, following referral from CAA Medical Assessors, and reviewing CAA medical records to provide opinions on risk. The consultant will also assist with developing policy and guidance. Periodically the consultant may be involved in the advising on appeals by applicants of unfit assessments. There may also be opportunities for research and clinical audit.

If you are an experienced medical consultant who is simply looking to further supplement their practice or who has a passion for aviation medicine, then this is a phenomenal opportunity.

About You

To undertake this role the CAA requires that you have full registration with the General Medical Council with a licence to practice. Additionally, you must be on the GMC specialist register for Neurology with at least 5 years’ experience as a consultant.
