The Role

This is a key role working as part of our professional Facilities team taking responsibility for the design, installation, Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), to repair and commission mechanical and associated systems across the entire zoo site, estate and rented properties.

To undertake a programme of routine monitoring and status checks on an extensive, diverse and complex range of site mechanical plant, equipment and services.

As a Plumber you will:

  • Provide an immediate, competent, economic and professional response in relation to, Hot and cold water services, Gas and Oil fired appliances, other mechanical systems on site, in order to sustain critical environmental parameters, business operations and a safe site
  • Carry out a PPM schedule relevant to your trade
  • Assist in maintaining legal compliance and a safe site, carry out all works in accordance with applicable trade regs and codes of practice, in accordance to building legislation
  • Carry out daily site checks and site wide compliance checks relevant to the trade
  • Carry out legionella monitoring in line with site requirements
  • Carry out repairs and installations when needed
  • Work as part of a team and individually dependant on workload

The Package

  • Permanent contract
  • 40 hours per week, 07:30-16:10 Monday to Friday, with weekends on a rota basis (for which time off in lieu will be given)
  • £32,408.13 per annum

Our Requirements

  • Have served a recognised plumbing apprenticeship or similar
  • Hold a current Water Regulations Advisory Scheme qualification (WRAS)
  • Be qualified in basic Health and Safety for the construction industry and capable of working within a Permit to Work system e.g. CSCS certification or equivalent
  • Have an understanding of risk assessments and method statements and how they apply to the role
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, flexible, can meet targets and be willing to learn
  • Experience of using recognised safety process including, Risk Assessments, Methods Statements, COSHH and Work Permits
  • Willingness to undertake additional training as required by the needs of the business
  • Capable of working unsupervised and as part of a team managing own assigned workload
  • Be courteous and respectful within a busy, public facing organisation
  • Good communication skills
  • Be able to work within approved codes of practice such as ACOP L8.
  • Have an understanding of Legionella Bacteria in Hot and Cold Water Systems (HSG 274 part 2 & 3) and the testing needed to comply.
  • Proven experience with Gas & Oil boiler installation, commissioning, servicing, fault finding and repairs
  • Driving licence

Although not essential, the following would be desirable:

  • Have an understanding of renewable heating systems.
  • Have an understanding of boreholes & water abstraction systems.
  • Be a current gas safe registered engineer with: CCN1,CENWAT, CKR1, HTR1.
  • Be a current OFTEC registered engineer. OFT10-01, OFTEC10-105E, OFTEC10-600A
  • Hold a current G3 Unvented Hot Water Storage Systems qualification
