Huntsman has an opportunity for an experienced Packaging Engineer to join our team in North East England. The position is a full-time permanent and home-based contract with frequent travels to other European sites. If you have a background in chemical industry, knowledge of production environment and transportation requirements for chemical products, we would like to hear from you.

Reporting to the Advanced Materials Supply Chain Director, you will be responsible for the entire packaging range of product manufactured in our sites. Assuring compliance on regulatory as well as certifications on new packaging, you will within this expert role, provide support, advice and guidance to other regions and divisions as part of the role.

As The Packaging Engineer, You Will
  • In co-ordination with Marketing, Sales & Manufacturing, introduce and/or revise packaging for new and existing products with a very strong link to Product Management
  • Review regulatory compliance for new and existing products
  • Coordinate transportation in the various means/various destinations
  • Coordinate UN package testing for Huntsman certified packaging through third-party test lab. Ensure periodic retesting is completed as adequate and within required time frame (in case of issues co-ordinate actions with concerned parties)
  • Coordinate package compatibility testing upon request from product group
  • Investigate packaging complaints with team to determine best-fit resolutions
  • Ensure packaging material complies with the corporate identity guidelines
  • Maintain packaging specification network. Make specifications transparent and available in SAP and Internet data base
  • Maintain regular contact with existing and/or new suppliers, to be updated of new developments in packaging and transport requirements
  • Initiate and/or support cost improvement initiatives on packaging materials, not compromising technical & legal needs
  • Stay well-informed of developments and changes in packaging shipping regulations, through literature or by participation in industry bodies, associations and regulators
  • Ensure that all activities are in line with Environment, Health and Safety principles, Ethics & Compliance and International Trade Compliance guidelines

Skills & Experience Required
  • Degree in Packaging Engineering or Chemistry with proven experience in a similar role in the Chemical Industry.
  • Strong understanding of Dangerous Goods regulations, including transport and storage.
  • Good knowledge of Procurement & Planning a plus
  • Fluent in English, German is advantageous, with excellent communication skills and the ability to engage and influence at all levels
  • Good management skills with the ability to train, coach and develop indirect teams.
  • Working knowledge of SAP and database maintenance is required
  • Demonstrable track record of identifying and implementing sustainable improvements in Packaging
