Hambleton and Richmondshire Pupil Referral Service (Sunbeck), based in Northallerton, are looking for a suitably experienced and qualified person to join our staff team on a full time, permanent basis.

Our service is dedicated to improving life chances for young people who need help to manage their social and emotional skills. Students accessing Sunbeck have often had difficulty in mainstream secondary schools and need support and guidance to get back on track with their education. As a full time Instructor at Sunbeck, you will be part of a committed staff team, delivering a wide range of programmes and activities, both academic and practical based.

The main emphasis of the work is in providing Outdoor Education programmes and Physical Education lessons for KS3 and KS4 students at Sunbeck. Due to the flexible nature of Alternative Provision, you may be required to deliver sessions outside of this subject area, with support from a subject specialist.

In addition, you will be a key tutor with responsibility for the pastoral care and progress of a small number of students. You will possess the ability to work flexibly and have good organisational skills. You will have the ability to lead, manage and relate well to groups of students aged 11-16, have a responsible attitude and a commitment to health and safety. A high level of competence in the activities you will be leading is a must alongside a broad working knowledge of outdoor and environmental subjects and issues. A good sense of humour and team spirit are essential to this role.

This is an exciting time for Sunbeck as we expand our provision to include the Targeted Mainstream Provision based at Thirsk School. We embrace working effectively with our mainstream colleagues and we are looking for someone who can develop strong links with our locality schools. We welcome prospective candidates to visit the school prior to submitting an application and if you would like further information about the role, you can speak with our current instructor or the Headteacher.

Please contact Kayleigh Aveling for an application pack – kaveling@hrprs.n-yorks.sch.uk

Thank you for your interest and we hope to hear from you soon!
