Job DescriptionThis position provides an exciting opportunity to implement a new business continuity strategy and framework to help protect the Environment Agency from organisational-level threats, such as coronavirus and European Union (EU) exit.You will also define and implement business continuity and organisational resilience policies across the organisation, working with Defra and senior management across the business.Key responsibilities include:
  • Ensuring that the framework meets all business requirements; is at the forefront of industry best practice; and is working as intended (through a process of reviews, exercises and lessons-learnt recommendations that enhance protection to the organisation).
  • Establishing a governance structure for all organisational resilience activities (implement leadership roles and responsibilities, standards, targets).
  • Articulate risks, mitigation plans in accordance with our risk management framework. Develop risk reporting papers in preparation for the organisational resilience portfolio board.
  • Overseeing work with business areas to develop and maintain strategic business continuity and recovery plans.
  • Overseeing the production of written reports and presentations highlighting risks and recommendations for improvement to the framework.
  • Understanding and managing the impact of emerging, organisational-level threats through horizon scanning and impact analysis. If required, support the implementation of task and finish groups to provide fast-paced, tactical response.
The teamThe Organisational Resilience Team is a new team within the Chief Operating Officers Directorate, sitting under Corporate Management, Assurance and Security.It will:
  • Develop a new strategy and framework to help protect the Environment Agency from organisational-level threats.
  • Provide corporate leadership and direction for all matters relating to organisational resilience.
  • Review and analyse the impact of emerging threats and resource task and finish groups to respond to those threats as required.
Experience/skills Required
  • Excellent business/organisational knowledge, leadership and influencing skills.
  • Proven ability to shape a new approach and effectively communicate that to a wide
  • audience.
  • The ability to effectively partner with a diverse range of stakeholders and customers to achieve business benefit.
  • Be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, working with a large case load.
  • The ability to juggle competing and changing priorities, while coaching and advising your team members along the way.
  • Can evidence your broad experience of business improvement, decision making and problem solving.
  • Be well organised, able to plan effectively, and have experience of leading complex work with a clear focus on outcomes, quality and innovation.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communications skills.
  • Ideally have good working knowledge of / previous experience working in organisational resilience or business continuity management.
  • A good knowledge of risk management identification and mitigation
