REPORTS TO (TITLE): Head of Optical Networking

Primary objective of the job:

To design and test Our end to end network and services as well as provide operational support where required. This can include fibre cables and enclosures, xPON, DWDM, Ethernet, IP, Wi-Fi as well as internet, voice and business services.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

· Produce designs for the development of the company’s optical network for delivery of triple play residential services, business services and mobile backhaul/fronthaul services based on international standards and world class best industry practice.

· Produce designs using fibre, xPON, DWDM and Ethernet technologies.

· Ensure the designs meet current and future service, scalability, and resilience requirements.

Ensure network and service integration with the BSS & OSS platforms.
· Produce test specifications and validate the network designs in Jurassic Fibre’s lab.

· Produce commissioning documents for the deployment of new/upgraded network and service capabilities in Jurassic Fibre’s live network.

· Work closely with the network build team and provide support.

· Review and approve formal acceptance tests for the commissioning of the fibre, DWDM and xPON network and service deployments.

Ensure all designs and acceptance tests are fully documented and the network is deployed and configured accordingly. Maintain the integrity of the network and service solutions.
· Support handover of the optical network and services to Operations and provide 3rd level technical support where required.

· Network capacity planning

Keep up to date with new optical standards and technology solutions.
· Support the evaluation and approval of new optical technologies and enhancements.

· Any other duties that may reasonably be required of you.



Academic qualifications and experience required for job:

Qualifications:

· An Honours degree in Electronic or Telecommunications Engineering or equivalent.

· Chartered Engineer preferred



Experience:

· At least 4 years’ experience of optical network architecture, design and test with a proven track record in delivering world class fibre networks and services for network operators.

· Optical fibre types, characteristics and standards

· DWDM technologies, network designs and standards

· P2P Fibre technologies, network designs, services supported and standards

· xPON technologies, network and service designs, standards.

· POP Site design

· Integration of DWDM and xPON with the Ethernet and IP layers.

· Integration of the optical network with the BSS & OSS platforms

· Ability to design reliable, scalable, cost effective and future proofed end to end network and service solutions.

· Design validation testing, vendor interoperability testing and formal acceptance testing before the network goes live. Use of OTDR, xPON and DWDM test equipment.

· Integrating network and service solutions into a BSS & OSS platform to provide a fully automated provisioning, performance monitoring and fault management solution.

· Supporting network build teams with the implementation of network and service solutions and subsequent handover to Operations.

· Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced start-up company.
