The role of Operational Manager within Public Protection is about working with residents, businesses, communities and partners to provide a safe and successful environment in which people can live and work safely and businesses can thrive and grow. You will have a key role supporting the Head of Service in determining strategies to drive forward key Public Protection initiatives. You will need to have an understanding of wider strategic ambitions and influencing agenda’s to be the Directorate lead for services including Environmental Health, School Travel, Climate, Energy and Air Quality and Licensing and have the expertise to provide leadership to your team and to other teams as required. You will be expected to exemplify our ‘We’re Kirklees’ ways of delivering high performing services and in your approach and support to teams.

This role is based within the Public Protection Service within Environmental Strategy and Climate Change Services within the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change.

The role will include being accountable within a matric management arrangement for the achievement of commissioned outcomes in line with agreed strategic plans. You will also support the Head of Service in delivering Directorate wide areas of responsibility such as Enforcement and Health and Safety. You will be responsible for highlighting significant risk to the achievement of outcomes and opportunities to enhance delivery and be responsible for embedding a performance culture within operational area which reports on the basis of agreed evidence and policy.

The role currently being advertised will fill a vacancy covering the leadership of Environmental Health. However, the role of Operational Manager in Public Protection is generic and the post hold may be asked to cover other areas of responsibility depending on the needs of the Council.
