Job content

This job is internally restricted. To apply for this job you must be an employee of the Council for the duration of the recruitment process – up to and including the start date. You must also be a substantive employee (or an employee with 12 months continuous service or more) of the Council or an Apprentice. Please note that if you work for an Academy you are not an employee of the Council.

This is an exciting and challenging time for learning and organisational development (L&OD) in Kirklees. L&OD has a vital role to play in achieving our shared Kirklees outcomes through supporting and developing great people with the right skills, values and behaviours.

Some wider work is already underway to look at the L&OD function across the council, and recruitment to this L&OD Partner role is part of managing our corporate capability and capacity to deliver, as well as aligning roles and responsibilities across People Services.

Your role

As L&OD Partner (corporate) your role will be to work organisation-wide, partnering the business on cross-cutting learning and organisational development strategy and delivery.

You will develop our corporate L&OD provision to support employees across the council, in line with our People Strategy and organisational priorities. These include effective and compassionate leadership; highly skilled, flexible and engaged people; and being an inclusive employer of choice.

Working as a corporate ‘enabler’ you will build strong relationships and provide strategic advice to support corporate projects, priorities and organisational development.

You will take responsibility for managing L&OD Officers within the team, setting the direction, prioritising work and resources and ensuring workloads are appropriate to people’s skills, strengths and experience.

We’re looking for someone with a passion for people development and you will be able to demonstrate that you have the appropriate knowledge, experience and ability to undertake the key requirements of this role.

Your behaviours and style are just as important as the experience you bring. We expect you to role model our council behaviours and work with the values of inclusion, kindness and pride, which are at the heart of our Council Plan . Your professional and technical knowledge of learning and organisational development will be supported by strong communication and influencing skills and the ability to build relationships and work on your own initiative.

Please read through the Job Profile before applying. The employee specification will be used for shortlisting.

If you would like to find out more about this role or have an informal chat, please contact Alison Monkhouse – alison.monkhouse@kirklees.gov.uk (Please note that I will not be available from 28th June – 2nd July, but you can contact Pat Lewis pat.lewis@kirklees.gov.uk instead from 29th June).

Interviews are expected to take place on 21st and 22nd July 2021.
