Summary We’re are looking for a Mobile River Warden to join our fantastic team.


Hours: 37.50 per week


Salary: £19928 per annum

What it’s like to work here

River Wey & Goldalming Navigations & Dapdune Wharf is a tranquil waterway running for nearly 20 miles through the heart of Surrey. The Wey was one of the first British rivers to be made navigable, and opened to barge traffic in 1653. This 15-mile waterway linked Guildford to Weybridge on the Thames, and then to London.

Click here for more information about this location What you’ll be doing You will be involved and take responsibility in support of the Head Lengthsperson to organise, lead and manage set projects and tasks along the waterway, including supervising volunteers and working in close co-operation with other team members. You will enhance the reputation and promote the work of the National Trust on the Wey Navigations by supporting the Lengthsperson Team through the operational management of a length of the navigation and delivery of a high standard of service to river users, local communities and volunteers. Who we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who has:


  • An understanding of waterways and a working knowledge of conservation and biodiversity.
  • Practical experience in relevant land, conservation and access management, supported by appropriate qualifications or equivalent level of relevant experience.
  • Competence with tools and machinery such as strimmer, mower and chainsaw.
  • Knowledge of health and safety, and safe working practices.
  • Understanding of the volunteer role and how to support them to perform at their best.
  • Ability to provide high levels of customer service, with excellent communication skills enabling positive relationships to be built internally and externally.
  • Able to plan and organise own work programme.
  • Capable of manually operating locks and weirs.
  • This role will require regular travel/navigation around the site to remote locations that are not accessible by public transport, please ensure you are able to meet these travel requirements and have access to a vehicle.
